    I too had a call from the above number.  Company claimed to be called Onguard 24 security and offered a monitored security system.  When asked where they got my details the caller did not know the source - he was just ringing a list of numbers given to him.  At least he gave their number when asked - they normally just hang up !

    Be warned!
    My elderly mother was targeted by telephone, and visited by a salesman from onguard24.
    Fortunately my sister arrived in the nick of time to find my mother writing a cheque for £400, and then £60 monthly thereafter. She had been persuaded that she needed security, and made to feel unsafe. The salesman left, and then there was a landline call, thankfully taken by my sister!
    I have had strong words with the company, and have sent my mother details of ageuk security-much cheaper, and reputable!

    Report your concerns to the Companies Investigation Branch:

    http://www.bis.gov.uk/insolvency/Companies/investigations-hotline

    If you have information about misconduct in a company or by an individual please contact the Hotline to help us to protect creditors and the public, and ensure markets work to the benefit of business, investors, employees and customers.

    Our Investigations Hotline is a contact point where you can report possible misconduct to the Insolvency Service. We can then consider whether to use our investigatory and enforcement powers. We prefer you to send complaints in writing (online, by email or by post). However, if you are unable to do so for any reason, please leave a message explaining this on our telephone Hotline.

    Note – the following information relates to the investigation of companies that are actively trading, or which have ceased trading without entering into insolvency proceedings, using powers of investigation under the Companies Acts.  For information on investigations into companies which have entered into formal insolvency proceedings see our pages on Insolvent Companies.

    There must be reasonable grounds to suspect fraud, serious misconduct, material wrong-doing or significant irregularity in a company's affairs for us to investigate.The Insolvency Service does not only investigate the affairs of companies that are subject to insolvency proceedings. It can also investigate companies that are actively trading, or which have ceased trading without entering into insolvency proceedings, using powers of investigation under the Companies Acts.

    Please note – ‘company’ can also refer to a Limited Liability Partnership. There must be reasonable grounds to suspect fraud, serious misconduct, material wrong-doing or significant irregularity in a company's affairs for an investigation to take place. The Service can investigate:

    Limited companies and limited liability partnerships that are active and have a business address in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, including overseas registered companies which are operating within the UK. Companies that are actively trading, or which have ceased trading without going into compulsory insolvency proceedings.

    Investigations are fact finding in nature.  They are not criminal investigations, although they may address conduct which could amount to criminal behaviour.  Our approach is to take a proportionate and realistic view of issues brought to our attention, and to investigate aspects of corporate behaviour which might harm both the business community and the public generally. With this in mind we wish to know about the activities of any company which appears to be causing significant harm to consumers, trade suppliers, service providers, investors etc., who have had dealings with it.  Also where there is any strong indication of serious misconduct in the management or affairs of a company.

    Such activities would include companies that:

    Are set up for an illegal or improper purpose (‘Sham’ companies);

    Engage in, mainly consumer targeted, ‘scams’ where there is little or no intention of supplying or providing the ‘products’ promised;

    Promote, advertise or otherwise participate in bogus investment schemes or other ‘get rich quick’ opportunities;

    Engage in asset stripping operations;

    Target vulnerable groups using high pressure selling techniques;

    Take fees, deposits or other advance payments, in circumstances where there is little or no reasonable prospect of providing the goods or services offered;

    Falsely claim to ‘ring fence’ or otherwise protect customer or client monies/funds in their possession;

    Falsely claim to honour guarantee or warranty obligations;

    Falsely claim official status, approval, authorisation, bonding, licensing etc., from or by a government or other official body;

    Falsely represent, or otherwise abuse charitable, educational or religious status;

    Falsify their accounts, documents of contract or account, or security or references etc. In order to present their affairs more favourably;

    Improperly (and successfully) evade debt and/or transfer assets at under value to the detriment of third parties who have dealt in good faith;

    Are managed or controlled by persons who are prohibited, by law, from participating in the control or management of a company’s affairs;

    Are improperly managed such that reputational damage to the UK corporate regime is likely to result.
    You can lodge a complaint or provide information of undesirable activity or behaviour in a variety of ways.

    Help replies to OnGuard24 SCAM WARNING
    Process to recover funds from a bankrupt, or insolvent company
    Who do I contact to retrieve my money from a bankrupt individual, or company in liquidation?

    An official receiver (OR) will normally handle the early stages of bankruptcy or liquidation. In cases where the assets are particularly significant, an insolvency practitioner (IP) may take the place of an OR as a trustee/liquidator.

    The Insolvency Service supplies ORs to manage financial failure or misconduct. ORs may administer cases and also investigate individuals in bankruptcy or companies in compulsory liquidation. If the OR finds evidence of illegal activity, it will be reported to a relevant prosecuting authority.

    IPs are usually accountants or solicitors; they are specialists who work in the private sector, and they require special authorisation to act as IPs. They are responsible for all insolvency procedures with the exceptions of “fast-track voluntary arrangements” and “debt relief orders”.

    The trustee in bankruptcy is the OR/IP who takes control of the assets. A trustee will oversee the sale of the assets, and will distribute proceeds among the creditors.

    The liquidator is the OR/IP who is appointed to manage the liquidation of a company.

    Payment of Trustees or Liquidators

    Insolvency law specifies the remuneration for an OR acting as trustee or liquidator.

    Either a meeting of creditors, or a liquidation committee, will determine remuneration of an IP.

    Often the remuneration will be offered as a percentage of the value of the assets that are sold. Remuneration may also be allocated on a consideration of time spent performing the role. If there is no specific agreement for remuneration of an IP, they will receive the same payment as an OR.

    How do I register as a creditor?

    If the OR/IP handling a case knows that you are a creditor, you will be automatically contacted. It will usually take under 12 weeks for all known creditors to be notified of the bankruptcy or winding-up order.

    If you believe that you should have been contacted with regard to an insolvency or bankruptcy, and you have not received any communication, you should alert the relevant OR/IP and make them aware of any relevant details.

    Information pertaining to the assets of the company/individual is also useful, as this may help the OR/IP to fulfil their role more properly.

    In order to discover who is dealing with the case, there are several methods you may rely upon:

    Bankruptcy – search the Individual Insolvency Register for the details of the relevant OR/IP.
    Company Insolvency – search the Companies House WebCheck service.
    Insolvency Service Enquiry Line – 0845 602 9848
    Once you have established the identity of the OR/IP, do not expect frequent updates. You will receive a “report to creditors” giving information about the assets to be distributed and the circumstances which led to the winding-up. You will be notified when proceeds of the assets are distributed, or if there is no money available.

    This process can sometimes take years to complete. Remember to contact the OR/IP with any changes in contact information.

    How do I make a claim, and how will I be repaid?

    It is not necessary to make a claim if you have already been contacted by an OR/IP dealing with a case, as they will have already made a note of your claim. Your details will be added to the list of creditors.

    You will receive a “proof of debt” form to be completed and returned to the OR/IP so that they may issue your payment, or raise your debt in a meeting of creditors.

    Priority for Repayment

    “Secured creditors” receive highest priority of repayment, once the debtor’s assets have been successfully sold. A creditor who holds a security over an asset, such as a mortgage on a house, has the right to sell that asset in order to recover their loss. Surplus monies are given to the OR/IP to be distributed.

    Once the secured debts have been settled, the OR/IP distributes the remaining monies according to the following priorities:

    -        Liquidation/bankruptcy fees and charges.

    -        Debts owed to “preferential creditors” – these may comprise of wages owed in the four months prior to the insolvency order, up to a maximum of £800, as well as all holiday pay and contributions to occupational pension schemes.

    -        Any creditor holding a “floating charge” over an asset, in the case of company liquidation.

    -        All unsecured creditors.

    -        Any interest generated on debts.

    -        Shareholders, in company liquidation cases.

    If it is not possible to reimburse in full the creditors of unsecured claims, the money available is divided between those with an unsecured claim, and is apportioned according to the value of each claim. In such a situation, the OR/IP will notify all the claimants of which they are aware. For this reason, it is important to ensure that you have properly submitted your proof of debt form.

    Unfortunately it is possible that, as a creditor, you may not receive any return – it is dependent upon the number of other claims, and the total amount of money realised.

    The OR/IP should supply upon request a list of the other creditors, which will also show how much each creditor is owed, however the OR/IP may charge a fee for this service. You may also request a copy of the court file, which should contain similar information.

    The OR/IP will direct you to the court file if a “statement of affairs” has been submitted. A statement of affairs is a document which has been submitted by a bankrupt, company officer, or director, it states the assets and provides details of all debts and creditors.

    A creditor’s claim may be rejected entirely by the OR/IP, however they will need to provide the creditor with notification as to why their claim has been rejected. Such a rejection may be appealed in court. It is prudent to seek legal counsel before applying to court.

    Creditors’ meetings and liquidation committees

    A first meeting of creditors will normally be convened by the OR when there are significant assets to be realised. This meeting of creditors will appoint an IR as trustee or liquidator by means of a vote.

    In the instance that the assets to be realised are not valuable enough to warrant an IP, the OR will assume the role of trustee/liquidator themselves, and will send notification to all creditors that no first meeting will be required.

    If creditors with over 25% of the value in assets request in writing that a first meeting be held, the OR will be compelled.

    The OR may appeal to the Secretary of State to make an appointment of trustee/liquidator; this may be done in the case of an emergency, or when the OR feels that they are unduly prohibited from acting as trustee/liquidator.

    Further meetings of creditors, known as “general meetings”, are sometimes held throughout the process if requested by creditors holding at least 25% of the total value of assets. A general meeting may also be called by the OR/IP in the event that they wish to discuss the creditors’ wishes.

    Hi
    I had a call and as I am in the market for a monitored system agreed to a visit AFTER they claimed to be registered with NSI. Checked with NSI and neither OG24 nor Onguard 24 are registered with them. Checked Companies house and this Co has been trading since Nov 2012 having liquidated Onguard 24 and 2 other companies before that. So they have liquidated 3 Companies since 2007 and just started another - what does that tell you.

    Actually i can verify that it is quite legitmate, I also  got the cold call, and was very dubious, and thought it was a scam, however i must have been in a good mood on the day, and agreed to a visit and assessment to discuss,  as i was already looking to have a smoke alarm system put in, (as part of insurance requirement )
    i thought what they were offering was good, i was going to pay less, and get both a burglar alarm, and fire alarm, to me it was a no brainer ....., and can also confirm it works a treat,
