- Scam buster| 7 repliesWas contacted by London and Thames recorder. And southeast informer. To take an advert out and to pre pay. DO NOT TRUST THEM. THEY HAVE BEEN REPORTED BUY THERE OWN STAFF AS A SCAM ON FACE BOOK. they sound great on the phone but I will call round there one day SOON. TOTAL FILTH.

- DisgruntledYes, this is a complete scam. Completely unreliable. They will entice you in with a reasonable sounding deal and then pester you to take out more and more advertising services from them. The main person who kept phoning me was verging on being offensive with the pathetic way he was flirting. They don't phone when they say they will and don't deliver on what they've promised. And, to cap it all, their product is rubbish.

- katelondon replies to Warning| 1 replyJust dodged the bullet. Had used them before and never saw the paper Southeast Informer, or any
voucher copies. They phone again today, all flirty and 'helpful' reducing ad price from £150 to £60
in five minutes. When their 'accounts' phoned up to confirm the order and said that it would appear
on bank statement as 'Copthall Media' I immediately cancelled as these were the same as before,
which they had denied on the phone call. Hopefully my card will not be used but will be keeping
an eye on the bank a/c.
The guy then immediately phoned me back - ' but you promised...' Tough - once bitten as the
saying goes. Google 'southeast informer' the only one that seems to apply is a business in
administration and for sale. Take care folks. - Sue KingsworthSouth East Informer called with a good offer of £70.00 for a period of 10 weeks ads. My colleague paid over the phone and was told artwork and invoice would be sent. Called about 5 hours after giving an offer of £300 +.for back page, I was suspious of the person who called, and cancelled the card payment and getting new card sent. At the time of their second call they had not sent any invoice or artwork. Then searched South East informer and came to this website page.

- small business ownerJust had a call from these crooks. Almost fell for the high pressure sales tactics. Sounded to good to be true. Been stung by a similar scam in the past so decided to look into them before handing over my card details that they were so keen to get hold of. Glad I found this as it's saved me money that as a small business I can't afford to lose. The South East Recorder is a scam. Do not give them your card details.

- Lee LydiateHad a call from these people last week. I have worked in advertising for many years and never come across the South East Recorder. Some of the claims from the sales rep seemed a little far fetched and made me suspicious. When I questioned him I was told the circulation of the South East Recorder was anything from half a million readers which incidently is more than the national newspaper, the Dailly Star so a ridiculous claim, right down to 45,000. I know the industry so knew the circulation figures could not be true but I wonder how many fall for the slick sales patter. When I questioned him about the claims his response was anything but slick. Eventually I was given a load of abuse down the phone and shouted at. I rang back asking to speak to somebody in charge which I did and I was laughed at. I have rang a couple of the advertisers on their website and it seems that my experience is not unique. Shockingly many claim that unauthorised payments have been taken from credit cards multiple times after one initial booking. The harassment and bullying tactics seem to be a recurring theme too. From what I can gather what appears on the card statement is New Union Publishing. A quick search shows the director of New Union Publishing has a string of closed companies to her name. For some reason New Union Publishing Ltd changed it's name in 2016. Perhaps it has something to do with this http://hammondhilllimited.blogspot.com/2012/0 ... rating.html?m=1
Whatever the reason the South East Recorder and New Union Publishing seem to be a company to be wary of. In this day and age businesses should not be allowed to operate with the sole purpose of stealing your hard earned money and should not be allowed to make whatever claims they wish to clinch a deal. Report them to Action Fraud or your local trading standards and spend your precious advertising budget with somebody that delivers. Do your research before parting with any money. - Kevin AlfreyI'm ashamed to say I worked for New Union Publishing in the summer of 2017 during the holidays. I was there for five weeks but was never paid any wages. I can confirm most of the things that have been said on here. They are a bunch of scammers with no morals whatsoever. I didn't know what I was getting into and I'm not proud of what I did working there but I was young and needed the money.
They deliberately target elderly and vulnerable people and use the most disgusting tactics imaginable to bully, threaten and intimidate them out of their money. Even if you don't authorise additional adverts, once you hand over card details those lovely guys at New Union Publishing Ltd, The South East Recorder, West Country Advertiser or whatever name they've decided to go by today will continue to help themselves to your money. The office is little more than a pop up boiler room scam and there so called bogus newspapers don't actually exist. Credit card details are casually left lying around the office and I could probably write a book on the shocking levels of customer service. I was personally told by the director, a lady calling herself Jody to say whatever I needed to say over the phone and 'to just get the [***] card details'. Using fake names was common practice so whether the director was actually called Jody or not I do not know. Whatever her actual name is, she is certainly leading an extravagant lifestyle. She went on two holidays during my short time there. When I heard the way they treated one 80 year old women who they fleeced for thousands I'd had enough . To add insult to injury and despite calls and letters from me I was never paid a penny for my work. In the end I was threatened with violence if I didn't go away and with being paid a visit to my home, so i wrote the money off.
Terrible company. Avoid at all costs - Ally replies to marion145- 149 New Union Street, Coventry CV1 2NT. They appear to be trading currently under 2 names. New Union Publishing and West Country Advertiser. Usual tactics of constant name changes to cause confusion but the same old scam.
- Tom StaplesI run a nursing home in the West Country and have just had a call from the West Country Advertiser. Was put under a lot of pressure to say yes over the phone and almost did but trusted my instinct and thought I'd check them out first. Found this and other blogs so I'm glad I held fire. Almost lost £300 in their bogus publication.
A little digging online shows they are nothing more than a pop up boiler room scam. The owner of the business, New Union Publishing Ltd is a Jodie Pilz. She already has a string of dissolved companies to her name impressively all by her mid twenties. In their few short years in business they seemed to have been based at Ground Floor, Woodbury Grove London N12 0DR.
Suite 1, 47-48 Chapel Street RUGBY CV21 3EB
Top Floor, Regent Street Rugby CV21 2PE
Unit 1 and 2 Mercia Village, Torwood Close Coventry CV4 8HX
48 Queens Road Coventry CV1 2NT
145-149 New Union Street Coventry CV1 2NT
They seem to be constantly on the move and constantly changing names to avoid detection. So far I believe the names they go by are New Union Publishing, West Country Advertiser, South East Recorder, West Country Weddings and The Wedding Co-ordinator although I'm sure there must be many more. Please don't let these crooks steal your money and report them to trading standards or the police.
