- CrowyMy mate got this call over the last couple of days, not twice but thrice. Indian accent, he got cranky when the old mate started questioning him. My mate is gay and told him that the only type of sites that he could have got any suss computer content from were the Gay Dating sites he frequents. The Indian dude did not understand what the term gay meant and thats when my mate got suss. I nearly pissed myself laughing. Didnt stop him from ringing my mate back twice.
- DawnToday at 2.30pm I received a call from “Global Maintenance Department” saying I had a virus on my computer and asked if I was sitting in front of my computer so they could talk me through the problem and they could fix the problem remotely. They proceeded to tell me to go to the Start button, this is where i cut him off and asked him for his phone number and name, the number he gave me was 161 4084448, his name was Nick.

- EmilyThis group uses different numbers, depending on the city you live in - always a local number.
- Emily HumphreyI have been getting calls from "my computer maintenance department" for about 7 months. at one stage it was up to 15 calls a day but since registering with the do not call register, it has decreased but not stopped. It is from different numbers so i think they are probably using a re-router.

- MontyWell... I have been getting calls from The Computer Maintenance Dept for a long time now. Sometimes twice a day!
I have got beyond hanging up now. So, my favorite, is to tell them, I am going to put a 'hex' on them & their family.
Oh & telling them they are going to get cancer also makes me feel better.- Caller: Computer Maintenance Dept
- Annoyed in AustraliaHi there - I also just received a phone call from Lisa at Global Computer Maintenance Dept. Figuring it was a scam, I began to ask some stern questions of 'Lisa', who got nervous and put me through to her manager, 'Harry'. So sketchy. I hung up after getting their phone number - 0291917404. They claimed they were ringing from South Melbourne. Infuriating to know they are taking advantage of people.

- lyalcEvery time they spend a lot of time 'selling', their costs increase, and their ROI decreases.
I find the best thing (for me) seems to be to use a lot of their time talking to them, pretending to follow their instructions, then suddenly deviate from what they expect.
e.g when they ask to to run eventvwr, I say - "Internet Explorer started" or "I see a black box appear that says format c:\" etc. Or I don't have a 'start button' because I have a MAC.
After a few minutes of convincing them this does indeed occur, they invariably hang up.
This only works if a) you have 15 -30 minutes spare; and
b) you are prepared for multiple follow up calls over the next few days to 'help me further'.
I found that if I made it convincing enough that they had actually caused me damage, they would give a postal address to send a legal letter invoicing for costs, something like "'Salt Lake City, Bangalore, Bengal". My Indian geography is limited, but I think the address is fake too.
Currently, I have told them to expect to hear from Indian lawyers engaged to recover the lost income they have caused due to lost income.

- Liz| 3 repliesWe had a call (in New Zealand) form Global Computer Maintenance and Technical Dept Microsoft Centre about viruses on my computer. I tried to find out how they new our number and they said it was held with the phone and internet account...concerningly they did know both account holders names. I asked to many questions so they put me through to the manager (Andrew Wilson) who tried to get me to turn on my computer and install a programme...
Both people I spoke to had excellent English, with Indian accents.
I asked if I could call back and the number he gave was 09 88 931 88- Caller: Global Computer Maintenance and Technical Dept Microsoft Centre

- Moose replies to LizSomeone please stop these guys. They've been calling me for the last two months, pretty much daily. Usually I either slam the phone down or yell something first, but the other day I controlled myself enough to take down details of company name (All details had changed since last time I'd bothered) etc and eventually told them I was going to report them to the police. The rather shell-shocked Indian boy on the other end didn't seem to find this at all surprising and hung up quite politely. I thought SURELY that would be the end of it but NOPE here they are again today. This time I got a lady who started shrieking Oh My God before hanging up when I told her I'd already said I'd report them to the police. Please, please could someone who knows what to do just get these people off the phonelines and out of our lives.

Asked for Identification person stated name as Rony Wilson of Global ID manintains department of windows. He gave a address of 103 coronal ave, Sydney. I refused to follow his commands and he was sounding angry and determined saying - "fine let your computer be hacked and don't complain to us it has happenend" I than knew he was up to something. - Brian replies to Liz| 1 replysame for me 3 times in two days - 16 May
I've stalled them as a game and they gave me an Auckland Downtown address with post code- what BS! - annoyed replies to BrianI got a private call from some Indian dude named Ricky today talking really quickly about how my computer has been infected with some virus as a result of surfing on the net. He knew my name and it so happened that he called the moment my internet access got disconnected. It was all too odd for me so I started questioning what company he was calling from (Global Computer from help desk department). I asked how he got my number and he said that the IP address alerted their organisation of my details the moment my computer was compromised.
Long story short, I refused to do what he asked on my computer and got him to give me this number:
03 9016 0451 which is based out of Melbourne. After I hung up, I found this website. Funny how these clowns think they can fool people so easily. He is still waiting for my call. I am getting my husband to call him and threatened him so that I will never have to hear from them again. - SM replies to Blind Fred| 1 replyThis has made my day... I just got one of these calls - I work from home and get several a week. I usually string them along for a bit. "Susan Smith" called me... Yours made me laugh...
- Lionel replies to SMI live in London and these guys have called me 4 times in the last week. It's so clearly a scam, but I can imagine some less sceptical people may fall for it as they are well spoken. They keep on calling. I'd love to know how to report them / trace them so that they will be stopped before someone falls for installing whatever software virus they are trying to get people to install. Pure evil.
- aimeeI just recieved a call from 347-468-9508, telling me I had malicious files being downloaded on to my computer that my spyware could not detect. they wanted me to perform some tasks to help them save my computer from being hacked. My husband and I were very suspicous and refused. they said they were tech support for all windows programs world wide. Don't know whats up, but wanted to report what happened. They said the company name was Global Computer Technical Support.
- Caller: Global Computer Technical Support
- JRobThe same maintenance computer company called me for the third time in a week. I always politely tell them that I have a mac and not a PC. And a few minutes ago the telemarketer told me to shove my mac up my ass... I can't believe it... Good thing it was an unknown caller...
