- Amy replies to ErinHi All, i have also just received a call from "Global Technical Dpt of E.T Protection" who state that they are based in Capetown. Same story, malicious junkmail virus and want me to download bla bla bla ....their number is 021 3007901. Also heavy indian accent. When i call the number it is a voice mail stating the working hours of the business. I told her i would phone her back if i was interested. Obviously not!

- moI also received a call from a woman with an indian accent saying she called from 'global computer maintenance department for windows'. I went through the same process of being told that my computer is slow because of the viruses that are not detected by my anti virus software and was asked to update my package for £114 for 2 years or £165 for life time support to fix my system. I was also asked to allow 'log me in 123' to let their technician have access to fix this.
I asked them to call me back, no number recall, but the number given to me is in London 0208 129 3275. The person is very persistant to get me to buy the support. Looks like a lucky escape for me!- Call type: Prank
- JennyI just answered 2 calls from something that sounds like this! Luckily it was me who answered and not my parents as I'm not sure they would have been as suspicious! "Jack" said he was from windows computer maintenance, and that they had "seen" that some harmful or malicious content had been downloaded onto our computer. Not only is this ridiculous in the first place, but as far as I'm aware if people were downloading malicious material the only people that I would imagine would be in touch would be the police to your door to confiscate said computer, not a random company over the phone. I told the caller I did not believe him and that what he claimed was not possible. I told him I no longer wished to talk to him and hung up. He then rang back! I said I refused to talk to him and said the homeowner was not home, and made him aware if he pursued the conversation I would contact authorities...., he began claiming I was rude! haha! clearly I rattled him that his scam had failed!
- GemmyAnother in a long line, obviously. The caller actually knew my mother's last name (my father passed away last August) - now his name is no longer on the phone (mistake #1), mine is on the isp account (mistake #2), wouldn't give me their company name and just kept repeating the same thing...turn on your computer so I can fix it. Well, while I didn't say it, I was tempted "over my dead body" - a little extreme I realize...
After telling him I only allow my brother-in-law in the computer (twice), he finally hung up.- Caller: computer maintenance department

- RichardI just got off the phone with "Sierra" and "Andre" for Global Management Department aka 24/7 BC Care and they were part of Microsoft. The number was blocked. I played along with them long enough to understand what they wanted which was enough information to compromise my PC. I told "Sierra" I thought she was phishing and hung up. She called back and wanted to know why I hung up. I told her that I was certain this was phishing and I would report this as soon as our call ended. Which it did. She hung up.
Just a thought. Does anyone believe Microsoft monitors the gazillion number of computers out there that use their software? If there was a "problem" would Microsoft offer to fix it?- Caller: Global Management Department

- Warren replies to CompTech| 1 replyFYI - Telephones are NOT secure. I have been a telecoms engineer for a number of years now.
- Nan replies to WarrenThe post from "CompTech" was 28th November, 2010 and the post before yours was on 1st June. Why on earth would you suddenly decide to post your odd message on here 20 days later?
- jigiJust got a similar call from a guy claiming to be a technician with Global System Care.
I kept him on the line, I like wasting these guys' time.
It is impressive that he did not give up even though I told him I am a software engineer!
He told me to click on 'Start' at the bottom of the screen, at which point I got a bit bored and told him I am actually running Linux.
He then called me a douchbag and hung up :)
It's sad but I'm sure there are many who fall for this type of scam.
Posting this here so that this variation on the company's bogus name will show up on search...- Caller: Global System Care
- Pat| 1 replyCaller had foreign accent. Very difficult to understand. Said his name was Jim Smith. He said he understood I was having problems accessing the internet and Microsoft had him contact me.
I did not get a phone number or enter information he wanted me to do. I told him I would check on it and for him to call me back later.- Caller: Global Computer Technical Dept.
- Nan replies to PatThis is a scam to get remote access to your computer. If they get it they will install spyware/malware to steal personal information like ba nk details, passwords, etc. Neither Microsoft nor its partners would ever 'phone you. It would be a breach of their privacy rules. The people who 'phone know nothing about your computer. They rely on scare tactics and lack of computer knowledge. There is a warning on the Microsoft website about this scam.
- ShawnaI got the same call. I decided to waste their time. I told them this was a blessing they called as my computer was packed with viruses and that I was so happy they called. There was silence for a bit and same sentences announcing who they were. I said I am so happy they called, then I proceeded that my computer crashed due to these viruses and it wouldn't come on, and I haven't been able to check my email and listed all different things I couldn't do on the computer . I said please fix it, there was silence again, and then ,madam you have to buy a new computer, we can't fix that,
I said please don't hang up, try to fix it and then when they insisted I have to buy new one, I said but what if that one gets a virus? To get rid of me after very long conversation, mostly from my side, he said madam it will not get virus for one year. I said again please don't hang up, what will I do if it gets virus after one year? How will I call you? At this he said we call you after one year.
I will enjoy their call too, marketers don't cancel my name on their lists so I intend to keep them online and enjoy myself.- Caller: Microsoft technicians
