As no-one on here has given any info to these messages (except ""Sarah"  who could be a plant from the scammers), I am not sure why you have posted your message here.  Apart from that I agree with the message you are trying to get across.

As I said, I totally agree with you.  It is a disgrace that neither the service providers nor any Government body are prepared to do anything to protect people from these scammers.  What really gets to me is that so many of these scams, particularly the fake loan ones, are targetted at desperate, vulnerable, people who don't realise that they are being conned.

scum txt contains this info, it is from "AFK telecom", who probably harvest mobile numbers of gumtree and likes

well i got it as well when i don't actually have a tv at home, and definitely no tv licensing is on my name

I too have received this scam yesterday.

+447786200611: TV Licence payment is overdue. To pay £5.60 using the debit/credit card you last used ending 9800 please text YES to authorise. Call 0300 555 0293

A couple of observations:

0300 555 0286 and 0300 555 0281 are genuine numbers at www.tvlicensing.co.uk for payment arrangements.
£5.60 is used as the amount in several of their examples.

I got a text from TV Licencing, and thought it was dodgy, so actually rang the number from the website.
It is a valid number for them. The text was sent in error as my mobile number had been put on an account for someone else.
It is not a scam

I have received two texts over the past couple of days saying TV Licence in arrears - not true!

SCAM message!!! I recieved text from them today saying my tv license is overdue by £2.00 and to make payment immediatly funny thing is I don't even have a license in my name its in my husbands and is paid monthly by direct debit so its def not £2 overdue!! DO NOT CALL OR REPLY delete and ignore!!

My 14 year old received same to pay £5.60 overdue TV licence. Same phone number but address is: G E & M Jones & Son, 21-23 Ochil Terrace - that's it not town or anything else

I've just received this asking for £29.10 but we pay our licence by direct debit and have done for over 20 years so definitely a scam or total incompetence. This is not the number listed for TV licensing.

I'd had 2 text messages from this number asking me for £8.68 for arrears but pay every month by direct debit.... I've never informed them of my mobile number so guessed this must have been a scam also know I'm up to date with my payments.

1. I don't have a card ending in 7024
2. My licence is payed for by the year at Christmas
3. The TVLicence people do not list this number

So clearly the people saying it is not a scam are lying. Total scam

Might it be that someone has given them your contact details and that contact will continue?    Could be worth a free phone call to sort out the error.

Had a couple of messages from this number say pay £11.20 but my tv licence is more

My daughter keep getting texts asking me to call 0300 5550293 to pay overdue tv licence,my daughter lives with me and therefore she is not liable to pay as I pay by direct debit for this address
