- sandyman| 8 repliesthis number claims to collect fr coping with cancer north east are they genuine? or another riding on the back of a genuine charity?
- Caller: bag thru door
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- pappyon replies to sandyman| 3 repliesI have just had another one of these bags and am wondering the same as you, as to whether this company is genuine. They call themselves Retexa, but they do not even have a basic web site or an office phone number. Even the contact number for the bags does not look genuine.
They claim to give £75 from every tonne collected to Coping with Cancer NE, but there is no link to them on the Cancer NE web site.
I have been told by the Mcmillan Cancer that they stopped collections becausse of the number of clothes collection companies that were using their name fraudulently.
Maybe this crowd is doing the same thing! - Nan replies to pappyonTry contacting Cancer NE and see if they know about this company. I was nearly tricked by a breast cancer collector because I saw the pink ribbon. Turned out they were from Lithuania!! A lot of these collectors are fake. They sell the clothes they collect to people in poorer countries. To me the give away is they only want clothes and shoes.
- mandythis number has been found on charity bags for the UK kidney federation. ive also been told this number is for a debt collection agency. The Kidney federation have been told as this number is suppose to be associated with other charities for clothing collections but Macmillan came away from them and The Kidney Fedration couldnt really place the number placed on the bag.
- Mandy replies to pappyonRetexa is not an English company and when you look on their website it is for spare parts etc. nothing to do with clothing collections.
- William SmithThis is what i found out about Retexa 0333 6666777 http://www.unicarerecycling.co.uk/contact-us.html I seen 1 of there vans in our street and never seen them before so looked them up.
Also 2 sites http://www.charitybags.org.uk/clothing_collectors_list.shtml
http://www.east-northamptonshire.gov.uk/downl ... Unicare_Ltd.pdf but there is no risk assessment on infection and parasites that can be past on. - Sarah| 3 repliesI received a bag through my door for Coping With Cancer NE, I am always abit sceptical about charity collections after seeing certain things on TV so just be safe I got in contact with Coping With Cancer NE as there was nothing featured on their website. When I called and enquired they confirmed that Retexa were indeed legitimate collectors and were collecting on their behalf.
I also looked at the website www.unicarerecycling.co.uk and Coping With Cancer and National Kidney Federation are both featured on there- apparently Retexa is a trading name of the collection scheme which, when I have looked back at the bag, it actually does say on the bag on the back 'Retexa is a trade name of Unicare Ltd, Co.Reg No 05744027'
In my opinion they look genuine and don't think we have anything to be worried about. - jackie replies to Sarah| 1 replyGot bag thru door today, on it says fill bag with good quality clothing, above that says £75 from each tonne collected go's to charity, if there selling it by the tonne I would have thought it didnt have to be good quality as they go for rags an shreded to be recycled Was going to use it but am not, only give to them that resale as complete clothes..
- Sarah replies to jackieDon't think that commerical companies like that shred down the clothing or anything which is why they ask for good quality. I saw somewhere that the clothing is sold to developing countries and made more affordable for families, who otherwise would not be able to afford them.
- it mk replies to sandyman03336666777 a charity or not ?
- LeoWhats up with taking your stuff into one of the many charity shops that way the money is going where they say it is and maybe help out a charity that has no collections
- LeeI have just had another of these clothing bags put through my door! This one calls themselves "Retexa" (Coping with cancer) and working in the North East is it genuine or not?

- TattieTamWe had a bag through the door; states quite clearly that all collectors carry ID. The guy who dropped our bag off had no ID and found it very difficult to converse in English. Detail on the bag does mention both Retexa and Unicare. Use local charity shops is what I advise.
- Caller: Retexa
- TinaThey also take other bags that other charities put out, we have a choice on who we donate to, they shouldn't take what has been donated to others. apparently they use 'scouts' to see where others are distributing collection bags so they don't put any through letter boxes on those streets but send an unmarked white van to pick up full bags and leave half empty bags. All collectors should carry id, make sure you ask to see it if you are unsure!
- Tom| 3 repliesReceived bag through door marked up as being from Retexa and for caring with cancer NE with the info that they provide carers and therapy workers at various hosp within NHS and aim to give £2600 per month to cancer UK.
I live in Scotland and the NHS is funded from Scottish parliament with different protocols from the remainder of UK.
So why are they collecting in Scotland?
I have requested info as to which hospitals in Scotland these carers etc are based and how many occasions in the last year they have reached the target of £2600. To date have received no answers. - Hanna replies to pappyonHi. Agree #Charity that is not what it seems..... Check out this useful website - www.charitybags.org.uk
