- AK47 replies to woxI got 3 calls today
- TC| 1 replyCalling repeatedly...on a Sunday!
- Helen replies to TCPhoned them back - hsbc
- CTLondonHad calls in last few days but no message left. I'm an hsbc customer so maybe its them.
- Dennisits HSBC collections
- Caller: hsbc
- Call type: Debt collector
- maxineapparently its nothing to do with hsbc or collections its a company pretending to be them
nor are they debt collectors! - Simon| 4 repliesThis is not HSBC, I have spent a good hour or so on phone to a genuine HSBC number to confirm this. I have had lots of text messages from this number asking me to call them and when I did they tried to get information from me about bank accounts. I was quite suspicious as they got my surname wrong so I deliberately gave some incorrect information for my security answers and they said it was all correct! I asked they to prove they were HSBC by asking them some questions of my own and they couldn't answer these.
- James| 4 repliesI had a text to call this number claiming to be from HBSC. I was close to a branch near the time so I popped in to check. The duty manager confirmed that it's a GENUINE number for HSBC's Collections Department. If in any doubt, contact your bank and they will check for you. It's easy to check if a number is valid so why do we have these ridiculous unqualified comments from idiots who can't be bothered to check the facts? It's those types of people that are easily ripped off!
- Caller: HSBC
- Call type: Text message
- James replies to Simon| 2 repliesHow do you know that? Did you contact HSBC to ask them to check the number? No, you didn't, did you?
- Jeeves replies to JamesThe problem with calls like this is that in the last twelve months a scam has made its way here from the USA. In this scam they have found away of spoofing actual bank numbers, so a bank, if asked, would agree that it is one of theirs. The advice from Action Fraud and the Banks themselves is as follows. 1) Do not give any information to the caller. 2) Terminate the call and unplug your 'phone from the wall. 3) Wait for about 1 hour then plug your 'phone back in and 'phone the bank on a number you know, either from their website or your own correspondence. The reason for the last two items is that scammers do not end the call when you hang up and, if you ring back immediately, you are still through to them.
- ProjI'm almost certain it is a scam, I called the number back. I recently called the HSBC call centre and the first thing that happens is you enter your account number sort code and date of birth for security reasons. This number goes straight to asking you to give out card numbers and speedily connects you to a human being, which we know is too good to be true! When I told them I'd give my sort code and account number but not my card number it really threw them off.
- Caller: Claim to be HSBC
- Clairthis number keeps calling, I do have an account with HSBC but when I looked at the HSBC phonebook that you can find on the HSBC website the number is not listed, so I think it's a hoax
- Deja-vuI contacted HSBC through their online chat facility and they confirmed this number was not on their lists. I'd received a text which doesn't show what number it's from but instead says its from "HSBC Bank" which also had my name correct - although for the purposes of this report lets pretend I'm John Smith :
"Mr J Smith Please call us on 0345 607 7088. If you have spoken to us today please ignore this message. HSBC Bank plc www.hsbc.co.uk"
It all looks very genuine and I almost fell for it. ALWAYS assume it could be a scam and call the number on the actual website.
And before I forget, I don't trust "James" either, especially when scammers are just as able to put comments on these websites as we are. "Helen" and "TCLondon"'s comments seem a little off to me as well.- Caller: Scammers pretending to be "HSBC Bank"
- Call type: Text message
- Chris| 1 replyI received a text from 'HSBC Bank' today
'Mr C Wood Please call us on 0345 607 7088. If you have spoken to us today plesae ignore this message. HSBC Bank plc www.hsbc.co.uk'
I rang the official HSBC customer support number and they confirmed that they had not been trying to contact me, nor had they any record of this number for another department.
This is a scam, somebody had got hold of my HSBC details because they have a connection between my name and my mobile number.
Do not call them back- Call type: Text message
- Rubbish Alert replies to James| 2 repliesLooks like a shill for the fraud posting lies here - a sure sign of a fraud being conducted.
- Chris replies to JamesI did, and they confirmed it is not their number
- Chris replies to Rubbish Alert| 1 replyWhat concerned me is they have my name, my mobile number and the fact that I am a HSBC customer, it suggests a data leak from HSBC is behind this.
Thankfully I am naturally suspicious - Chris replies to ChrisRight, so a bit of backtracking here. This is HSBC Credit Card and it is genuine. I got a letter saying I had missed a payment today and to ring them on the same number. It's 100% genuine, I have no idea why HSBC Bank didn't recognise the number when I rang the other day. I can only apologise for scaremongering on Wednesday.
They have my name and mobile number for a reason !!!!
Unfortunately I am naturally suspicious and shout on the internet.
Sorry - AmandaSame message as above, asked to call back via text - very suspicious so going to call the main number for HSBC online - whether it's my account or credit card. Don't take the risk!!
