my research has led me to believe it's a number particular mobile users need to enter in their o/s phones so they work in Australia. - christinai was recently oversees, when I returned and received my phone bill I had about 2 pages of calls/sms from this number charged to my account, likewise I called the number and it said the phone was disconnected. can't seem to find out anything about it but I have a $300 phone bill I didn't incur.
- JamesThis number was appearing lots on my bill whe I went to NZ. I found out from Telstra that because the Txt i sent need to go to a local provider then to telstra that it doens't pick up which number I actually sent it to. So any txts i sent while o/s always come up on my bill as +61418 706 700. apparantly it can't be avoided - unless you keep a written diary of whom you sent a text to when.
- AmandaLike a lot of people I went overseas and when I received my bills upon arriving back in australia i found all these messages had been sent to this number yet its a number not known to me and one i did not send messages to. Who knows how long I will be charged cos of this number but if my next bill has sms's to this number I may have to get a new sim card and start all over again! Im so angry
- AzI'm currently experiencing this. What is going on? I'm overseas at the moment. Is there a reason why it occurs to people overseas? This seems to be a common problem. Not happy about this. Surely Telstra can track this kind of robbery. Either that or they're behind it.
- AzWhat phones to people on this forum have??? I have a Samsung. I'm with Telstra.
- rtMulitple charges under this under listed on my phone bill when I was in NZ. Telstra says charges listed under this number are for receiving texts when you are overseas - the receiver pays for cost of receiving texts. Bugger...have to cop the cost...
- KymWe received 23 charges from this cell phone number...+61418706700 also while we were overseas. I have contacted Telstra and they have enlightened me! When someone sends a sms to you...and you are overseas, their sent message goes via the Australian Message Service Centre and is then re-routed to your phone wherever you maybe..(O/S). Hence, telstra are getting money from the sender..(if the sender is with them) and then money from the receiver!!( who obviously is with Telstra, cos it seems to only happen to us suckers that stay with Telstra!) I say that's TOTALLY DOUBLE DIPPING!! Thumbs DOWN to Telstra, aren't your profits big enough??!!

- DissatisfiedI have spend thousands of dollars for these so calledand unexplainable SMS charges and many hapless hours trying to get Telstra to explain why no mobile number can be recorded - ( they seem to be able tp easily record them when a call is made!)
I am now prepared to contact the Ombudsman with formal complaints.
Will try to keep you posted. - SteveI too was shocked to see my bill after a recent OS trip. Having 2 mobiles on the account there were about 50 SMS calls to 0418706700 for each phone. I also called the number and it's a disconnected line, however after reading the comments on this forum and cross matching the times I sent SMS from the phone (helps to not change your phone home time when travelling and also to not delete your sent records) the explanation tallies. The SMS times on the bill (local OS time) tally with the sent times in my phone for outgoing SMS only. There are no charges for incoming SMS messages. Local currency exchange is a problem however with SMS costing $0.57 - $0.80 each depending on country.
- Caller: Telstra
- AnnieCalls registered while in Hong Kong. I presume Telephone providers
- Caller: TCSL
- Jase from WodongaThis number (in fact +61418706700) is in my Telstra phone (HTC Touch Dual 850 if that makes any difference) as the 'Text messages service centre'.
I certainly didn't put it in there! - BlankThe number you are seeing appearing on your bill is the Telstra Message centre number.
Some overseas carriers do not record the B-party number but record the Telstra short message service centre number that is stored in your phone - HoldenWhen sending sms in New Zealand and Hong Kong it appears on my account as 0418706700. What is this about? Please help

- Steve of NewtownJust got my bill after being overseas and there were plenty of calls for this number on my phone. As has been mentioned by a couple of people already (James in post 3 for example). They do correspond to when I sent sms messages whilst overseas. The costs are not too high as I made sure I kept my phone usage to a minimum whilst overseas.
Those complaining about the large bills received when returning from overseas. That large bill was incurred by you using the phone too much whilst overseas. Also I noticed that they are not part of your package, so if you have a $100 package none of those sms/calls made overseas will count as part of it, so you'll have to pay the full amount on top of your $100 package. The sms received whilst overseas does appear to count as part of your package usage however.- Caller: Telstra
- Helen replies to heyHi, if I want to pick up my voice messages from a landline, without ringing my mobile number, is there a certain telstra number I can call to do this?
- WendyI have just returned form O/S and there are 41 charges fro sms on this number.. this number is disconnected?? Just spoke to Telstra..Marty..he is going to rebate these charges form my account..as they also checked and noted that it is a disconnected phone..we will wait and see if I do recieve a credit...

- HelmutI also received my latest bill with $80 worth of calls to that number. Some calls are made 3 times at the same time and also charged 3 times. this is not acceptable. I have written to Telstra and if I don't get a refund, I will cancel my phone with them, I still have another account with Optus and no problems at all.
Not happy. - kittyWow.. I am amazed at how many people have been effected by this strange number.. I decided to google this number , as we were at a loss as to what this number represented. Telestra did take of any cost incurred, but they were very cagdy about the historiacal value of this number, however the man I spoke with elluded to the fact that it belonged to a male her in Australia!! My husband was over seas at the time these sms were racked at, ten a day... He knows not the number, its all been a huge mistery..
