This is a scam, the send out a message with the option to stop them from texting you again and when you do it empties your pay as you go account. Do not reply because they call themselves Debt Line which is a legitimate government company with a free phone number and a call back option.

I started getting these calls to my mobile and home phone right after I started fishing for car insurance. Now I just received a phone call as well.

I recently used confused.com for car insurance quotes. The other car insurance companies i used directly were AA, Churchill, Directline and Elephant.co.uk. One of these must have passed my details on to a email/phone sharing list. Like others here i made sure to tick any boxes that implied that I did not want my details shared with third parties or to receive any other information they think I might be interested in. Whenever I spoke to someone on the phone I made sure to tell them that i would not allow them to share my contact details with any other companies etc.

Bloody anoying as I get enough spam in my email as it is.

PJH that is exactly what mine said with my partners name in it not my own, with the same S1L but the number was 01228 508243.
This is the first one i've had, does anyone know it will be a regular thing now?
a few weeks ago i signed up for my mobile number to become x-directory, obviously hasn't worked.

Hi, I just got the same txt but ends with '2 REMOVE RPLY V7V' and the number it gave me is 01228508244. It's really wierd as all of these comments have different call-back numbers and different end numbers.

I would say its a scam for sure! and if you reply remove back to them it will probably cost you £3 per text!

Same message about paying off debts to my partner but the remove reply was 27DX.  I recently used Moneysupermarket for buildings and contents insurance.  There must be some kind of link because I again I clicked all the things not to have my details passed on, etc, blah, blah.  This was also a Vodaphone number that has been added to the call prevention list.

I see 2 distinct group of people here: those who received a text regarding insurance and those who were offered money.

My text regarded insurance and it gave me to phone 0207 965 7858 to ring "for a gr8 quote!"

Companies these days can send bulk txt messages as marketing through third parties or with their own software, obviously sender ID can be spoofed. You can spoof your number if you digit in a 20p text from an enabled BT payphone.
So it may be a made up number to appear like the sender number when in fact it's a direct marketing company behind all this.
Texting is a common solution for companies, I even had a text from Halifax reminding me of my appointment for the financial review the following day.

But in this case we are beyond the boundaries of ethical texting.

It all relates (directly or indirectly or through independent companies) to www.egroupinsurance.co.uk

The phone number used when they phone you are 08456850048 and 08456856157
Look up these numbers on THIS website (whocallsme.com) and read the posts there for more info.

I recieved a text from this number also with a similiar ending. they seem to be linked with a company cold calling to get you momney back from bank charges 08443571616, which is a scam they charge you for their service when other companies do this for free. How do they get our numbers though?
