Anybody know Who or Why? - fredJust found out this is a marketing call from British Gas if you call back the number there's a recorded message with details of how to get removed from thier cold calling list.

More interesting was finding an article in The Daily Telegraph of Friday 23 October which says that companies which make silent calls 'will face swingeing fines of up to £2 million, under plans to be unveiled today'. So keep complaining.

I have asked many times to be removed from the list on the automated system over the past 90 days but this has not happened.

Info on the complaints process is at http://www.britishgas.co.uk/pdf/wearelistening.pdf with two telephone nos 0800 072 8632 but demands you provide an account no, or tell them if you have a prepayment meter etc, which is not relevant when you don't have an account.
Second one is "If you are not happy with the resolution of your complaint,
please contact Andy Eley, Head of Complaints: 0800 107 0184. Andy Eley does not answer the phone -EVER- say the staff and is uncontactable- Handy Ehhh.
The title of BG complaints process is " We're listening", which is true , they never promised to ever do anything - just listen. I've had several silent calls today , which their complaints department didn't take seriously, saying things like " you will have to show that its it was us that made the call."
Around 7 silent calls today, and one call finally containing a voice , that of Martin Blackmore, asking for someone who doesn't live here- or has ever lived here. He failed miserably to realise that BG had been given a 'bum steer ' of a false phone number.- Caller: British Gas talbot road Manchester offic

To whom it may concern, You have repeatedly called my home number to initiate a sales call (3x today), I wish this to stop. I have made a complaint to Ofcom regarding this. If you have a database of numbers that you call please remove my number. I am a member of the TPS scheme so shouldn't be receiving this type of call from yourselves. Thanks

I can see that your preferred marketing status was set as 'opt in' and this may be the reason you have been receiving these calls. I am pleased to confirm I have now amended your status to 'opt out' and have also arranged for you to be removed from our marketing database as requested.

- Going psychoticThese people have been persecuting me for 15+ years. 4 calls today from 08000 724699 and have had to inplug the phone. This despite being a member of TPS, being ex-directory, numerous complaints to Brit Gas and Telecom. Bought my first answer phone 13 yrs ago after two years of sheer hell. When you do get a human voice they act as if you're pestering them.
Blocking the incoming number only works for a short time - they just call from a different one. Lost count of the Gas numbers I've blocked over the years. Wish now I'd kept a detailed record; at the start it you don't think it'll go on for ever, but it does.- Caller: BRITISH GAS
