If your time is so valuable, why take the time to have written that email? Surely you don't actually think BG will give you money when they don't owe you anything? You chose to "research" and write the email and if you picked up the phone to BG then that was also your choice! The staff probably had a good laugh at your expense!

Tuesday 24th December - yes CHRISTMAS EVE and still they think nothing of harrassing people.  I answered it as it hadn't come up on my phone list as SPAM but the number will soon be added to it shortly.  An Irish man asked me how I was - (busy) and proceeded to read from his script about the fantastic deal they had going whereby you could call them free of charge if you had a boiler breakdown and however many times it broke down you would only pay a fee of £99 whatever the cost of repairs.  On top of this there's a £4 a month fee to pay for the first year (wonder how much it goes up to after the first year)and  how did I feel about that?  I said that in all the years we have had a gas boiler it's only gone wrong a couple of times and we have paid for it to be repaired and had no intention of paying monthly "just in case".  STILL he wouldn't give up, didn't I think it was a good price, what price would I think was a good one etc.  I told him that even if it was £1 a month I still wasn't interested in taking up his offer.  STILL he went on - what's stopping me taking up the offer and I took great delight in telling him that it was HIM going on and on about it that was stopping me and had to hang up on him in the end otherwise he would still have been trying the very hard sell.   Quite often I wonder what benefit there is from being on the Telephone Preference Service list which I have been since 1998 because it obviously doesn't work.

As you are an existing customer of British Gas they are entitled to call you.   It is in their Terms & Conditions which you have accepted either explicitly or implicitly.    You now need to write to British Gas and instruct them specifically to exclude your number(s) from Sales or Marketing calls.   Oh, and by the way I believe British Gas conditions allow them to sell or pass your details to other Companies.    Please do not take it out on TPS when the problem lies at your own doorstep.    It pays to read Terms & Conditions.        If you have spare time over this season I suggest you check out all the other Companies that you deal with as they are all much of a muchness.

I DON'T BELIEVE THIS!  Within a few minutes of my ghastly phone call as mentioned above I received an automated call wanting my opinion on the call I had recently received.  On a scale of 1 - 5 was I satisfied with the way the call was handled, one being extremely disatisfied, was I now satisfied that the call had been handled well, again 1-5, and a couple more on my overall satisfaction.  The number 1 key was nearly worn out with all the pressing I had given it.  There was even a chance to record why I wasn't satisfied and boy, did I use the opportunity.  If that Irish man's ears weren't burning I would be surprised and hopefully he will get a good telling off because his attitude is doing the company no good at all.  At least I now have yet another telephone number to add to my growing list of spam calls to ignore.

Yes, Old Mother Riley, I'm sure it is in their Terms and Conditions but they need to learn that if they want to sell you something they should respect your wishes when you tell them, several times, that you are not interested and should not choose to totally ignore what you have said.

Just got a call again from this number after a fairly long respite. Offer being pushed was an expensive boiler maintenance contract, once again I replied, "Why would I want a maintenance contract when I am a plumber?" This seems to reduce the number of BG(centrica) hard sells I get and ends the call promptly.

Came home to five answer machine messages from them, wouldn't mind but I rent the place and don't want to know, plus I work for RON so why the he'll would I want to talk to em??? Wish they would get a life instead of harassing others. What will be done about these call centres with scripted Irish, Scottish and polish people there all day being told to go away day after day??? But to be fair I actually get annoyed at the people who call up, they dont have too yet that do, so give em hell, they deserve it.

A female with a very rough Scottish accent claimed to be calling from British Gas, she tried a token approach to being friendly by asking 'how are you today', we all know they don't give a damn how any of us victims feel today. She went on to ask how my gas service contract was and when told it was ok she then went straight into sales mode to tell me of a new 'product' that BG has available for covering damage to my property. When told that my house insurance covers the items she was listing she went on to say that this new product 'is designed to complement, run in parallel with and to enhance any existing insurance'. I told her that if she thought I was naive enough to take a duplicate insurance for items already covered then she was sadly mistaken. After a short pause she realized that I knew she was trying to sell me an insurance I did not need. She then decided she was wasting her time and ended the call. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a policy that locks you in for life.

Yes its British gas on this number, its their sales team either selling energy if you not a bg customer or boiler cover if you are.

Instead of hanging up,swearing or anything else just simply state you wish to be removed from their database, they then legally have go if they don't you have a legal stand point to report them to ofgem. A few people have ask why no messages left, its illegal and against ofgem regs for these companies to leave an answer phone message.

Tell them you want removed from the database and they should do it,but you may end up back into it again when another company sells your number to British gas again, probably your real energy supplier.

Be careful what box you tick

    .
If this is British Gas why would they ring my teenage son in a house that has not, has never had and the prospect of getting gas to the house is nil.  They didn't mind digging up the whole area a few years ago so everyone else could have gas.  A bit of market research on their behalf would not go amiss before they make these calls.

Yes its British gas, it always amuses me when people rant on these sites about 'vermin' and 'scum' phoning them up, the person on the end of the phone most likely doesn't want to phone you any more than you want them to ring, but everyone has to pay the bills, just tell them you want opted out, as some one said above they have to do it, this is the society we created, greedy, money grabbing companies taking advantage of us and their staff. If you don't like it opt out, change suppliers, actually read documents you sign rather than just signing it blindly then moaning and yelling about people just trying to make a living when you get sales calls you gave permission to receive!! or alternatively answer it and talk to them, may even get yourself a better deal out of it?? Just a thought. I myself just thanked them for the call and asked to be opted out of all marketing, calls stopped until I changed to Scottish power who I assume sold them my number just opted out again.

Just had a call from this number - I'm very wary of 0800 numbers so chose not to answer but to check it out on this site.  I have had problems with British Gas calling before about their boiler protection offer.  As I live in a rented house, this offer is irrelevant to me.  In the past, every time they have called I have explained this and have been assured they will remove my number from their database, but sadly they are as untruthful as they are irritating.

British Gas are one of the better Companies as they provide a facility on their web site to check if a number calling is definitely one of theirs.   You can find it at http://www.britishgas.co.uk/help-and-advice/c ... e-call-you.html          In this particular case the number is calling about an account.       You can talk to them on 0800 072 4150

I'm a British Gas customer and I'm getting bloody sick to death of their dam sales calls.  The last call I got from these pimps got me mad and I threaten them by saying you ring me again and I will go else where for my gas.  So far three days have passed until today but I was out, they clearly think I'm bluffing well we shall see when I answer their next call.
