I had a text from Amex some months ago giving me a code. I ignored it because I don't have an Amex card. Now today I've had a missed call  from 08000778057. The voicemail left was just the unobtainable tone. I still don't have an Amex card. I guess someone used my mobile number on their application.  If their card has been used fraudulently Amex won't be able to contact them on my number... Oh dear!

Well this is very confusing. Some posts say genuine, some say scam.

My phone informed me the call was from Am-Ex. As did a message left when I did not answer. I called the number and was asked for my card number, this I don't have as I have not held an Am-Ex account for over 10 years. I have tried another number from the website which again asked me for my card number, again I did not progress this call.

If they call again I may answer and see what happens but my money is on scam!

A number of calls from them in the last couple of days, no message left every time. I guess it is not something to worry about as if it was serious they would have left a message identifying themselves and asking to call back..

    FRAUD

    Very convincing set up

Always ring the number on the back of your AMEX card - Never give out your information over the phone.

It is AMEX fraud dept - they called my landline from this number and i missed it, and seconds later they called my mobile and I spoke to them.  (it was to confirm a large purchase i had just made using my AMEX card - so i was expecting them to ring, and it was definitely them as they knew the amount and the retailer!).

As other have said - if unsure, ring the number on the back of the card.

Be VERY careful what info you offer or confirm. Numbers and names can be spoofed. Call the number on the back of your card.

Received a call from this number today from 'American Express'.  When I asked what the purpose of the call was, I was told to wait until I answered security questions.  I was asked for my month of birth.  When I gave the correct month, I was told it was incorrect.  I hung up.
I contacted American Express by phoning the number on the back of my card.  I was told that nobody had contacted me and that while the number is their Fraud Department, it had obviously been 'cloned'  - BEWARE!!!

Wasn’t a scam but I did call the number on the back of my card instead of a ring back. New card being issued. Scummers had been trying to use the card details.
