They said they were calling on behalf of 02 from Belfast. Knew my first name.
I queried why using 0800 number and got nowhere and then when they asked me to confirm my details I stated that as I could not actually confirm who they were I would not confirm what they should already know as they had called me. She could not get off the line quick enough.

This number calls me. I don't answer it, but judging by the number of complaints on this site, shouldn't O2 have blocked this by now?

I have just recieved a call from this number. I didn't answer but Googled it and saw these responses. I have recently bought a tablet directly from O2 so can't imagine they would be selling me another a few days later. Also I have worked for a mobile phone company and now work for a bank. I haven't heard of them needing to take 10p to check your account works in 12 years of employment. From a bank perspective it is very difficult to set up a direct debit if you are not a genuine company so card details are their best option to take your money. A company the size of 02 will be able to verify your account details with your bank without taking card details. See this thing at work a lot. Definitely a scam. Number blocked

Scammers claiming to be O2, they said I could get a mobile phone contract at a one off special price and it would include a free laptop, but only if I agreed to it immediately and give them my credit card details over the phone, to which I replied.... I'm already with O2 and if you were really from O2 you would already know that.... so F off!

Numerous calls from this number but I usually miss them.....until today when they (supposedly from O2)  tried to sell me a sim and asked for debit card details.  I have now blocked this number - it has joined 39 others I have had to block since December (thank God my new phone has this facility!)

they are hired by O2 to make these kind of calls, and O2 don't use carphone warehouse for anything bar sales, only reason they call you is because you t some point took your contrct with O2 from carphone warehouse. its a legit service that can be confirmed on the O2 website

Just received a call from this number asking if anyone uses pay as you go, I said no. The guy said his name is Orin from O2. Asked about tablets/devices we use with wife and if they would benefit from having mobile data. I said no, to which I was asked if they leave the house, and again said no. Slightly unsettled feeling after the last question when I hung up.

Some part of existing o2 contract customers details are stored by this company however PAYG customers wanting to switch to a new contract need the 10p check for a standard credit check and the 10p is paid back within 72hrs anyway, I worked here so its not a con, but most people I interested in buying something wernt keen on sharing their details anyway so I left, Vodaphone ring from their as well.

there are several posts on the O2 community confirming they are hired by O2 mate. have worked for numerous companies both sales and bank related, this is a common miss conception that it must be fraud, all that needs done is ask for info only O2 could know, ie security question or people you have called etc

    convergys staff
the company is CONVERGYS based at airport road, Belfast. o2 outsource all their outbound sales here as well as sites at bredbury, Altrincham and middleton. the reason your long card number and cv number are taken are as part of a credit check (these numbers aren't stored for obvious reasons)
