I've just had a call from 08009886220. They said it was the talk talk group and asked me to confirm my address and phone number. They then asked me my date of birth but I said I wouldn't give it to them and they hung up. I dialled 1471 and called the number back and the automatic message answered saying that it was the talk talk group. Is this a genuine talk talk number or an attempt to get enough information for identity theft?

This number has called me twice today and both times, nobody there. I thought these"silent calls" were supposed to be outlawed?

yes this number is a genuine talk talk number. usually they call you if you haven't setup a direct debit & your bill is due or there is a problem with your bill payments. if you ignore it & you haven't paid the bill, eventually you get put on incoming calls only, and when you try to dial out, you get a recorded message saying they are connecting you to an adviser.

I susspect this is a shared call centre number or an elaborate con (same thing if you ask me) as I have had a number of calls originating from the same numer;
The first ones claimed to be from a company speciallising in obtaining refunds on miss-sold PPI (personal protection insurance0 on credit cards, loans etc. They generally want £150 up front and claim that they will refund this if they are unsuccesful in getting a refund. I suspect they succed in getting a fiver back so they justify keeping the £150. I understand from Which, Watchdog and other consumer groups that most of these are scams or unsuccesful ventures as it is not as simple as they make you believe to prove that PPI was missold. Anyhow you can do it for free by contacting the credit card comapnay, the FSA and the Financial Services Ombudsman.
Secondly I have had calls from this number claiming to be from  TalkTalk and claiming to be able to give me a better deal on my telephone and broadband package; odd as I have been with them for several years. The man who spoke with an Asian accent (as do the majority of TalkTalk Customer Care staff) then started to aske me for lots of personal details and 'security data'; I thought it odd that he should ask for these as it was he who had called me. I told him that I considered this a safety and security breach and would not talk with him further. I have reported the matter to TalkTalk and await a response. I am registerd with TPS, FPS and MPS so do not expect to recieve cold calls and marketing.

I've had several calls from this number this week; all seemingly genuine sales calls on behalf of (or from) TALKTALK. The callers are very polite but why are they calling repeatedly?

Never give you card/personal details on the phone EVER. period.

This is not Talk Talk! This is a scam. They have been offering us a better deal on our broadband, which doesn't make sense as our broadband is free! They tried 12 months ago too & at that time said if we paid upfront we could get cheaper line rental. I rang Talk Talk & they hadn't been phoning & there was no such deal available. All they want is your personal  info. Tell them they are scanners & hang up!!!!

I have received several calls from this number and today I actually answered it.  They claim to be TalkTalk and asked to confirm name, address and telephone number.  When they asked to confirm my date of birth, I took objection, got suspicious and hung up.

I called back the number and got a recorded message that said - "You have missed a call from TalkTalk, but don't worry, we'll call you back" - or words to that effect.

They would appear to be starting up again judging by the posts here! No use in phoning back either.

I'm a Talktalk customer.  I've ticked the little box that said I don't want sales calls and I have been rung up in the past asking me if I want to update or upgrade my call and broadband package.  I came home yesterday to find that this number called and left no message on my ansaphone

There are a load of complaints about this practice and about this number in particular on the Talktalk forums and one of the bloody forum operators had the f***ing nerve to send me a link to this website.

This proves that either Talktalk are a bunch of complete bar stewards who take no notice of their customers' wishes OR that they are absolute incompetents and their customers' details are in the hands of criminals.

Just got a call from them, but i was screening, they just hung up and didn't leave a message, meh.

Getting called on a daily basis by this number although have signed up to the telephone preference system  Who are they? why do they keep calling with no one on the other end when I answer the phone

How do I get this call barred?

Keep calling me saying they are Talk Talk, I say as a security please provide a letter from my post code, they can't, so I hang up.They are trying to get your ID. I will leave talk talk if this continues..
