We received this letter through the post today saying Sky wants to give us a refund of £6.08. They want us to call 08081 01 44 37 to claim this to check they have the correct details for us. We have NOT had Sky for 12 years. We have moved 3 times since we did. Sky do not know this number or us we are an inactive account. I am not calling that number as Sky have informed me it will cost X amount of £'s per minute. Please inform all if your less inquisitive relatives of this scam to stop them making pounds off them.

0808 numbers are free to call from any UK landline. If they ask for bank details, then it's a scam. If not, it's legit.

Sky says this is a legitimate letter looking to reunite former customers who left their service before July 2012 with outstanding payments,. If you get a letter, call the freephone number to discuss your existing account and any amount you may be owed.

I had this letter and thought it was a scam but after checking martin lewis web site I see it is real.
I can't be a money scam as I phoned up to receive an automated voice which asked me to put in account for sky which is on letter and they will send check to name person on letter with next 10 days.
It took me 40sec to do all that then I was finished with call.

Hi just received the letter from Sky, after checking the blogs below and money advice site, I phoned.
It is a free phone number and an automated message asks for the account number on the letter, then says they will issue a cheque within 10 - 14 days to the address on the letter, it took seconds.
Why should sky have my money, I left them about 12 years ago.

It is, I believe, a genuine letter. I called the number it is an automated system. All they ask for is the account number at the top of the letter, and nothing else. This confirms you are the intended person and a cheque will be sent to the address registered to the particular account number within 7-10 working days.

We got this letter today. The phone number quoted (08081...) does not match any SKY number I can find, so I'm treating as a scam. We ditched SKY TV many years ago, so it all seems a bit odd.

I'm sure this isn't a scam.  The number is free to ring and all you have to do if your details on the letter are correct is to enter the Sky account number shown on the letter.  I left Sky 9 years ago and they say I am owed £8.50 so I'm going to take it.  They say they will issue a cheque within 10 days and they do not ask for any personal details.  Apparently it is because I left mid-way through a payment period and thus overpaid.  Martin Lewis's website had said this is genuine.

I received one - or rather it was addressed to my husband - although I am the account holder!   I havejust spoken with Sky customer services who said it definitely was not from them - and advised me - and everyone who has Skye to share with friends n family and also contact police in your area.
