The Call Prevention Registery (www.callpreventionregistry.co.uk ) is a fraud. The Director is Andrew Sandbrook of The Chalet 76 Pennard Road, Pebbard, Swansea, West Glamorgan SA3 2AA. (go on google to find his address). This is the same company as Free Mobiles 4U who has been investigated by The Mirror (http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/investigations/2009 ... used-of-mo.html). KEEP WELL AWAY and DON'T ring back if you missed them while you were out.

you people have nothing better to do TPS does not work!!! it does not stop international calls and people illegally using the phone book these people will take legal action against anyone who does this and for a mere 33 pounds a year, it certainly worked when i was getting 5 or 6 cold calls every day! you people moan about everything you moan when you get a cold call then moan when there is a service to stop it jesus you guys are sad!!!

Hi, please be aware of the company optoutuk.com as they are a total scam. i used to work for this company on a commision only basis. I had a script to read from and sell a service to stop calls from international companies. The rogue trader named Faisal Iftekar of

We were contacting people who where registering on the free services (which supposedly puts you on the TPS, which is free already. But the company didnt even do that) When speaking to these customers we were telling them that we can take them off the "international database" even though we couldnt. and charging them upto £40.

This is something that needs to be reported to the TSA, TPS and the police. This Faisal guy is a scammer and likes taking money from old voulnerable people. Shocking!

170 plus excellent reviews and the odd few are people that couldn't operate its simple instructions. So don't diss a company that is trying to help you stop these calls.

i am not too impressed with these guys i have to say. i have been trying to get one of their call blockers for the last 2 months now, all i want is some simple details from them before i buy two of them...lots and lots of promises but the information never arrives. not very impressed. Anne

Strange to see such aggressive defenders of CPR Global (Call Protection Registry).
Who else would get so angry except those who are trying to pull the wool over our eyes and scam us?
And to do it in such a nasty, attacking way - typical bully-boy scam tactics.
That's enough to make me realise just who CPR Global are and what they are about.
Avoiding them like the plague. I suggest everyone else do the same.

I use the whoscalledme site nearly everyday and have been doing so for a couple of years now and was surprised to see these negative thing said about CPR Global.

I don’t know about their passed history and I know nothing about the registry part of it business but I have brought one of their Call Blockers from Amazon and for a one off payment of fifty quid it is well worth buy.

Buying through Amazon your purchase is protected so if you feel its a little box that does not do anything, send it back but I can guarantee you won’t be.

Have you had the call blocker for over six months?  An elderly friend who was widowed in February last year bought a CPR call blocker in March, as she could not cope with the nuisance calls.  She bought it after talking to Sky who provide her 'phone.  As far as she was concerned, it was a one off payment for the unit.  In November last year she received a call saying her subscription was running out and they had taken the next year's fee from her card.  Firstly, she was totally unaware that there was any annual fee, and secondly they took it after seven months not twelve. I e-mailed them multiple times on her behalf for an explanation but all the e-mails were ignored.  She has now changed her card so they cannot take anymore money.    Prior to November, and knowing nothing of the above, I decided to get a CPR unit as it is cheaper than Truecall.  I read the information on their website very carefully, and had a few queries about International call blocking as our son lives in Australia.  I e-mailed CPR with these queries but got no response.  From reading the website I, too, was under the impression it was a one off payment for the unit.  I would therefore watch out for a 'phone call. All in all, from these two experiences I could not recommend them as a company worth dealing with, no matter what the quality of the unit itself.

Yes the service is different. The TPS service is free (both consumer and corporate) while CPR charge.
But for what precisely?

For the CPR unit they appear to simply pre-program the block list on their unit with known pest numbers.

As these numbers change and proliferate daily it appears pointless unless there is a subscription to auto-update?

Hidden away within a mass of dense text is:
"The customer shall make payment of all sums due under this Agreement including the Companies minimum payments and usual annual support charges where appropriate"

If you read the entire T & C page it appears to equate to a perpetual rolling subscription trap. You are not only buying a unit, but inadvertently signing up to a service by stealth. Naturally, as with all of these scams, there is no mention of the precise amount involved. Those caught out will no doubt shortly complain about these hidden charges on here..

Bogus TPS Calls

The Telephone Preference Service is completely free to consumers.

TPS will not call a subscriber of the service to ask for personal details or payment to complete a registration.

If you have registered via the web and have received an e-mail confirmation and clicked on the attached link, that's it! Your number will be registered for FREE with TPS.

We will not contact you again in relation to your registration (unless you have number(s) registered with the Corporate TPS, where we will contact you annually by email to renew your subscription - this is still a free service).

If you do receive a call from someone claiming to be from the TPS or a similar sounding organisation, asking for personal information or charging you for this service, our advice is to not pay or give them any personal details, it is most likely a scam.

We are aware of a number of organisations that call from overseas, possibly India claiming to be TPS or affiliated with TPS or BT. They ask for your credit card details to complete a registration to stop unwanted calls. They often claim that you previously gave your permission for this call. This is a scam. Never give out your credit card details over the phone.

TPS is the only official Opt Out service that companies are required to abide by under the UK law and that is regulated by Ofcom and enforced by the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).

5. There are numerous safe and free soloutions such as...

For smart phones, downloading a free call blocking app or simply allocating a silent ring to pests.

For land-line phones re-setting the default to ring silent and program only known numbers in your numbers book to ring audibly.

A genuine business will simply mail or e-mail you...

I have a strong suspicion that many of the nuisance/silent calls that are commonplace these days are initiated by shady companies like CPR to promote interest in their call blocker devices and services. Absolute fraud.

I keep receiving calls from this lot too although I have told them not o contact me. I certainly didn't notice any charges when I filled in the form and refused to give my card details. They are just as bad as all the rest.

Well I must say I have enjoyed reading these comments, infact I can tell you that this is actually a scam, so to you out there who have received a call from the cpr do not attempt to be fooled by these crooks! The tps does in fact work and guess what its free! Not like these people who charge an upfront fee of £39.99 for 12months to apparently stop the cold calls what a load of sh*t and the state of the manageress did I say state I mean size (more chins that a Chinese telephone book!but no need for bitchyness I suppose lol)but the Attitude on jabber the hut aka manageress is beyond evil maybe because she's obese but I feel for the staff who work in a dingey office while the owner [***] it up, I think a call to trading standards is long over due to smoking in a office is actually against the law, how very unprofessional! Why does everyone side with the TPS? Oh yes, because its free!! I'm assuming all these people are on the dole and cannot afford to spend the money for a service that works.

The TPS is scam as you have provided them with your personal details and the calls still happen!! I know of loads of companies that fail to screen their data against the TPS!!
