Receiving 'chatty' text messages for the last couple of days after putting an ad up on gumtree. Haven't replied, but they keep coming. Anyone else?

I got a blank text from 0870994870. i put an ad oon gumtree too, but its been taken off for over a month now

got a blank message today from this number and questioned who it was from. They said it was a Liam and claimed to be from my area but had got a wrong number and then started asking questions after I replied back.

I too got a blank text from 0870994870 earlier today and asked who it was. He said his name was Liam and asked "Dis not Jen?".   He said he was in Cavan (not my area) and proceeded to send chatty texts.  I have not, to my recollection, posted anything to Gumtree so don't know where he got my number.  

What is the point of this kind of thing?

Hi I just had the very same messages from that no half an hour ago and I just placed an ad on gumtree yesterday

I got one too, but I have no intention of replying. Unsolicited texts are either scams, "viral" promotions or idiots.

God just got a blank text from this number too. Whats the story is it a virus sent to phone or what should i do?

Got the blank message too, replied to it to try and find out who it was but didn't get a reply but i got a call about a minute later from a private number which then hung up straight away as soon as i said hello. Whats the point to it???

Just got a txt from this number asking "HI, what u at?". Havent replied and not going to. Am in Cavan

just received same text - from liam. Then a text to say hope you are not mad i texted you. Had something on ge on done deal. Also in cavan. Silly person

funny. today got text from this number saying 'hi what u up ta?'. didn't replied. strange

Hi i got a message from this number too 0870994870, he said 'this was liam, is this not sara and did i not want 20 euro credit'. Its the second time he has done this I am not on gum tree

I had same stuff. First phonecall from withheld no. then texts i thought were from a friend then the texts got weird so i asked who it was and got the reply liam. i realised it wasnt a friend and i stopped responding. I am not on gum tree.

I have been getting texts from this number since Sep 2010.

As he was texting often I saved the number on my phone under "Wrong Caller Liam"  - in case he was a nuisance caller or I needed evidence/contact details for him. Late last year he started texting again - I answered him back saying I wasn't Jen and that he had contacted me before. He asked why had I saved the number. I ignored the text and he texted the same thing about 3 times.
I have again received a withheld call just now - and then a text  from the same number stating " Hi. U at much?"

How do we block this number?

Hi Jo - I am not on gum tree either. Just got a withheld call and yet another text from "liam." Any advice? Thanks. Z

ya, same, blocked number, someone coughing into the phone, then a text from this number, my numbers not up on anything

Same again. Got a call from a private number around half past midnight, caller hung up as soon as I answered, then got a text from this number saying 'U up ta much?'. My number isn't up anywhere.

Same thing just happening to me today... Asked was I Sara... Then asked what I was up to... Had a call from an unknown number a few mins previous to getting the texts. Said he,s from Cavan. I,ve stopped replying after he apologised to sending the text in error. Then I,ve started receiving texts questioning where I,m from and what I,m doing. Prob some sick, saddo who gets a kick out of this kind of thing. I,ll just block his number.
