I found out about this 0871 dial out charge purely by chance when checking the cost of a 0900 number. BT bills online show itemised calls.  I had no idea what this number was until my son spotted it.  The old paper bills from BT do not show itemised calls but categorise them as 30 other calls which I assumed, wrongly, were family made calls. Thanks to this forum I found out about the 0800 number at £1 per month.  Worked it out that the 0871 charges over 4 years amount to more than £250.00. Rang ADT and am now connected to "free" service but when asked they said the cheaper option had been available for a long time.  Only thanks to this forum that I found about this as otherwise I would have been unaware and carried out paying the premium rate.  Going to take ADT to task to demand a refund (minus the £1 charge). and will inform anyone who will listen. If I don't get a result I will cancel the Direct Debit immediately to them. That should get them going.

Now on their "free" service at £1 a month which I only found about on this forum otherwise I would still be paying the premium dial out call.  I hope to pursue them to get the 0871 charges refunded.  If they do not come up with a result then it will be Trading Standards getting involved.

We have been getting charged for calls to this number for years and hadn't noticed. Phoned ADT but they say its not them and BT don't know who it is either
