- David HI think everyone should give these guys a break. Do you ever complain to Asda when they dont sell you Marks and Spencers Bread..No! These people are not Sky Repair Plan but they dont say they are! They are a third party company who will send you an Engineer if anything goes wrong with your sky system. Nothing is Free now days so obviously they are going to ask for your card details so that you can pay for the service that you will receive. If they were going to empty your accounts they would not leave you with their contact number and address?? Things do go wrong with sky so why not give them a call to take out there warranty!!!

- rog| 1 replycalled from steven, was given the number 08712344644 when i queried what they were saying. and told someone from sky maintainance would answer and that i was to ask for steven on extension 032 so i did,was put back to steven and i gave him my card details, he then gabled something and hung up.
i rang sky who said they did not have any knowledge about a change to my account and it must be bogus. i rang my bank and canceled my card they also put me on an identity fraud system to protect me that way as well
SO BEWARE - HayleyI got a call from a daniel.... At first I thought he was talking about my sky plan, then i asked him again and it was my cover plan, cos he said that he could save me £2, and i told him that sky are not changing their prices... so the alarm bells started ringing. He told me he could save me money on my cover plan, which explained everything, I had to give card details and cancel my existing DD and I changed company from my previous provider. They are not a scam or sky, they are a company that sell sky cover and I saved £2, they are not sky!! lol
- jimHad a call from sam ext 442 on 6/11/09,told me he was from sky and that as i had upgraded to sky+ i would recieve a discount of £2.01 on my package. He had all my details name, address, landline number, sky package deal i was on and amount paying each month to sky.I didn't suspect anything as they had all my details at first,i did give my card details and a payment of £23.97 has been taken from bank. What a fool i feel now.
I have written and e-mailed this company to cancel whatever they have charged me for, which i assume is insurance but to-date no paperwork as yet has arrived.Have approached my bank they said if i have not recieved anything in 30 days i can apply for non goods recieved.
Sky themselves state that they do not give out information to third parties(really strange),so where would they have got this info from?
I am waiting a reply from sky maintenance services, insurance dept and e-mails and also sky themselfs-- jeremy.darrock@bskyb.com who is chief director.- Caller: sky maintenance
- Meloni GossHi,
I too have dealings with Sky Maintenance Services.
I can honestly say that they are one of the few companies around that were really friendly as well as being professional.
I'm glad i took up their plan, as my Sky box was on the blink, so to speak. They were very quick in sorting it out for me.
Give them a break. I can tell you now, that i've had some really hard selling tactics from Sky themselves, and they don't seem to take no for an answer.
Thank you - jamesHad a call from sky maintenance services today, spoke to a daniel who was on an ext 077, he explained to me that i was currently paying more than i needed to for the maintenance of my sky plus system, and because they could offer a better level of cover at a cheaper monthly price they would like to switch me to their new plan, he did instruct me that i would have to cancel my old direct debit because this was a new plan with a different company. The service i received from daniel was very high, he also fixed the problem i had with my box over the phone. These are not a fraudulant company i just think that the only people that decide to comment on these things are negitive people that have mis-understood the conversation and feel stupid and chose to shift the blame from them selves. everything was fully explained to me, and i would reccomend this service to anyone.

- MazI had a call today from Sam at Sky Technical Support. The conversation was the same as many others, namely paying £2.00 too much for my Sky + . The telephone number he gave me was slightly different to the others. This number was 08432897363 ext 442. He sounded so credible and although suspicious I foolishly gave him my card details. He then said I would receive notification in a few days. After the call ended I began to have serious doubts. I called 1471 and the number was the same 020 number as has been mentioned. I called this number and it was a voicemail service. I then found this site. l called my bank and they have now cancelled my Debit card. I now have to wait and see if it has been used. I don't know if the call was a scam or not but I shouldn't have given him my details.

- CarlyKin| 2 repliesPlease note these people can also be contacted on 08432897363 - have posted my comments under that number - basically the same as all the previous comments on here - I was led to believe they were my own sky repair co and that they were upgrading me. Noticed money taken out a few days later - called and complained - spoke to someone who claimed to be a manager who listended to call back agreed I was clearly misled and offered me full refund. Some two weeks later no refund received. Called again and spoke to Jordan who also told me he was a manager - think they all think they are managers and was told refund done now and that sometimes takes over two weeks! Asked if all calls are logged on each individual account with notes etc and was told not!!!! Apparently on paper instead!!!! Have spoken to Consumer Direct who will notify Trading Standards but they also told me to write to them recorded delivery threatening them with legal action as criminal offence to mislead/misrepresent their company. Will keep you posted.

- Southbourne replies to CarlyKinI live in the same road as Sky maintenance Services Ltd and as a Sky customer myself I Googled them this morning out of interest. St Catherine's Road is mainly residential but there are a few old fashioned shop premises that are difficult to let and rents are very cheap. They started with one shop premise and recently opened a second a few doors along so I imagine they have been quite successful to date (you can see their first shop on Google's street view). In the main, the staff appear to be students - nice enough, but certainly not professionals. I've no idea if their product is genuine but their selling methods are certainly questionable. Whatever they were selling, based purely upon what I see and hear as a pass their premises I'd never use them. Something just doesn't seem right and they don't promote their services in their shop windows.
- Mark jI am wondering how a company can sustain this long after all this complaint, But one thing is for sure ,like you all said no one can take your bank details and take the money from your bank just like that now a days ,as there are loads of security checks .
i think FSA are going to crack down this very soon.- Caller: sky maintenance
- Michael replies to danielHad a similar phone call, asked for a contact number and was given 0844 3180500 plus then used 1471 and the number was 0207 1991613 both of which were former UPS numbers. Asked the caller whose name was Rob where he got my details he said a national database, I informed him I was on TPS and he politely closed call but he had asked for card details before hand. Be polite and request all their details and they seem to leave you alone
- Mr MHi everyone, I used to work for a similar company and none of these type of companies are 'fraudsters'.
They are legitimate maintenance companies but some just operate a little better than others.
To clear the situation up, this is how sky maintenance works:
Sky don't deal with maintenance on your system as it is your property, much the same as if you took out cover for your fridge or washing machine etc. So if something does go wrong and you phone sky they will charge you for the call-out and repair costs, hence the reason people take out the cover. They will most likely use the same engineers as most of the supposed 'fraud' companies use.
Sky do, however, recommend using the 'Sky Repair and Protection Plan' run by Domestic and General (a larger general insurer) and the only reason for this is because D&G pay them to do so. That is not to say any other company is not allowed to cover sky equipment.
Most of these companies are regulated by the Financial Services Authority, the governing body for all financial products in the UK, and if they are not I would not advise using them.
In regards to the bank details and the cancellation of existing direct debits this to do with existing cover. If you don't have cover do not cancel your Sky Direct debit because that has nothing to do with your cover, just the programming costs and its not the programming cost coming down, its the possibility of the cost of cover being reduced.
The script these type of companies use in their call centres is assumptive, most of them call under the assumption that you have cover and they can switch you over to their company and therefore reduce your costs.
I am saying this as impartial advice as I no longer work for a company of this type but I did find it frustrating in my time there that people are so confused about cover and who provides it.
I hope that has cleared up some of your queries and please feel free to ask more.
Mr M- Call type: Telemarketer
- Mr MAlso the only reason these type of companies seem to know the 1st 4 digits of your bank details is because anyone can obtain a list of card number prefixes that are in circulation in the UK. for example most lloyds tsb cards start 4921 or 4462. All master cards start with 54. Most Barclay cards start with 4462, 4917. and so on.....as I said, its an assumptive script so listen very carefully to what they say and how they say it.
- PHAEDRA| 1 replyas you get older you get wiser, or so the saying goes - I am getting older but this lot fooled me, will wait and see if they give a refund as I have cancelled the agreement

- minisomebody under the name called jack,, rang my houseline asking to speak to my mother, due to language barrier i took the call. i was asked if i wanted to have a maintenance cover set on my account beacuse i have had my sky services for almost a year. they did not sound convincing as to what the nature of the call was and were asking for card details. i was very reluctant and hung the phone when he suggested that it isnt compulsary to hv this service. i still wonder if this is a scam or whether it was a genuine call.

- TillyIn mid November I had a call from 'Nathan' who said he was from Sky Services. He had all the info re my Sky box and personal details, also said I was paying £2.00 too much for cover. He offered a new contract, paid quarterly and asked me to pay up front for 1st quarter. I assumed his call was a follow up from a letter I received earlier which said the company dealing with Sky Protect was no longer trading, but the matter would be sorted out. He asked for my bank details to be confirmed and stupidly I gave them - the first time I have ever agreed to anything like this on the phone. Only one quarterly payment has been taken but it seems even if I cancel my card if the old number is used it will automatically be transferred to the new one with this kind of transaction. I was given a phone number to call : 08432 897 363, but all I got was a message saying you are in rotation and after a wait the opportunity to leave a message, to which there was never a reply. I am now taking the matter further with Trading Standards and the police.

- Dan replies to CarlyKinHi Carly,
You are more than welcome to come and visit our premises, and view exactly what it is we do. We do not advertise in our shop window becuase we opperate on a national basis, and we have bigger marketing campaigns than "shop window" advertisment. We are a succesful business and are expanding due to the service that we provide our customers with. Our customer retention rate is very good, and this can only happen if the service we offer is good. Maybe before commenting people should use facts and not hear say, as this can prove damaging for a company doing its upmost to provide the most professional service to both customers, and potential customers. Also the fact that our staff are mainly "students" does not mean to say that they are not proffesionals. We provide all of our staff with extensive training. We monitor all of our outbound calls daily for compliancy, and take strick action on anyone not following guidelines set by the company.
I am happy to answer any questions you may have
Regards
Dan
