I just got a scam email with this number on it. The number is legit but the email is a scam, as confirmed by the ATO.

Can't be too careful.

Calling from the ATO regarding outstanding activity statements. they had access to some financial information that was correct.

Is this a scam number?

I had one of these today. Refused to talk, rang the ATO and they said it's theirs. Rang back, got tthe ATO automated system, and the person who answered knew exactly which documents were outstatnding.

They DO sometimes ring if you haven't acted on their notices. Usually they just fine you.

I think one reason for ringing is to make sure you are still at the address. The notices could all have gone to someone's bin, and you wouldn't know..

got a  private call on home phone . 5-11-2014--- a middle aged australian man asked  to speak with  my  daughter-in -law. he  gave me  her name only though- but said my number he phoned was listed as her number--( she did use my number at times years ago--) he then  told me  he had to contact her  about her tax- after telling him she did not live here and that she was on a pension- he told me to tell her to phone 1300.661.508 in the next 2 business days . i then asked --who does she ask to speak to?- he replied -- it doesn't matter -- they will know  when she phones. i notified my daughter-in -law. she told me it must be a scam-- so i phoned 1300.661.508. and got a recorded message saying it was the australian taxation office - but didn't listen to rest of message -- so i again notified her -- she re-told me it is a scam and check it out on the net-- i did  and saw that it was a scam--

They keep calling and asking me to ring back with my TFN or ABN they are ringing me in work how can I stop this????

I had a message on our home phone asking my husband to phone this no. Caller was male but gave no name. He said that he was from the ATO and the nquiry was regarding my father in law's trust fund and needed a TFN. My father in law died nearly 5 years ago. I confirmed with ATO that it wasn't a legitimate call.

This IS the 'Lodgement Compliance' agency from the ATO, and it is specifically for businesses.  It is not listed as a general number on the ATO website, probably because they ONLY deal with slow-to-lodge businesses.  Most likely, you have a business which is registered for GST but you are behind in your lodgements.  Call them and arrange something!  (They are actually pretty friendly!).

Had a call from a woman purporting to be from the ATO stating that she needed to obtain details including Tax File Numbers etc., she said that she could not continue the call when told that I would not be disclosing any confidential information over the telephone due to being unable to verify her identity.  She called back requesting I contact the ATO on 1300 661 508 within 2 business days.  She wouldn't want to be holding her breath waiting for the call.

Got two calls from 1300661508 about a week apart. After the second one I called the ATO direct from the number on their website and was informed that they have no record of trying to get hold of me.
If not sure just call the ATO direct, do not use that or any other number.

They keep calling me and telling me I have 2 days to call them and give my personal details. Spoke to my accountant who says its a scam. Do not give them anything.

I can confirm that the number is a legitimate ATO number, I called the ATO switch board then spoke with the Scamwatch team, they confirmed the number is an ATO number and the person who I spoke with was an ATO employee.

I recieved a phone call from so called ATO person asking for my son who was not home she told me that my son had claimed travel expenses and safety boots which she said was not allowed she knew his name his email address she knew every thing about him he had all ready received his refund with no problems she said her name was monica and she gave me a 132861 number and  a extention also her home number it was a 03 number I became suspicious and rang the tax office there was no problem with his tax I then rang the Federal police and reported it she my son's mobile quite a few times after that the police said it was a scam and that there had been a fake ATO website put up and that was how they got my son's information .
