I was asked to call back in 2 business days and provide a TFN and ABN

Hi Melissa. That number is for the Lodgment Compliance area of the ATO.  You may have forgotten an Income Tax Return or an Activity Statement. They will be trying to find out why it is not lodged.

Someone called me on 1300661508 and asked me for my detail so I gave .he left a message saying it's a call from ato .pls call back you haven't lodged your tax for last year .i provided with my tax file number and he said he will update all my detail .i did provide all of that.after reading all the complaints above for that number now I am very confused ho they got my number.what should I do now.cheers

You are the CLOWN because any ATO staff member who claims to "BROWSE THE DATABASE"  to find someone would be JAILED for fraud...you obviously don't wok there. or if you do..you need reporting and prosecuting

I also got an email and message that ask me to call back on 1300661508....balbala....

I received a message from this number saying it was the ATO and I needed to call it back within 48 hours. They gave me a long reference number. I called the ATO and the person I spoke to said that reference number and phone number is not in their system, and that the phone number is recorded on their system as a scam. It did turn out I forgot to lodge my tax return, but there were no letters or notifications on MyGov. So if they are wrong, something is wrong inside the ATO.

I received a voicemail saying from ATO, to call back on that number.
I called the ATO Switchboard (number on their website) and they confirmed it was a legitimate number and transferred me to the appropriate department.

Received a call at 6.01 pm on friday by someone saying it was from from ATO asking to call back during business hours ( 08.00 am to 6pm ) and gave me a receipt id. Voice of australian woman , friendly, but when giving the number to call back and the receipt id she was not very precise, as if she was creating a number of the receipt id at the time and it sounded suspicious. Calling the ATO line direct to inform as well.

got a call where i declined to provide any information, then got a mesage from "ATO" asking to call 1300 661 508 for an urgent matter. I called the ATO on their number listed on the website 13 28 65 and was told this is a genuine ATO number.
