Ditto the appreciation on websites like this to confirm that these are phishing calls hoping someone will call back and give them info. Mine was from a 617-714-0762 (Cambridge, MA) number, but gave me a case number and the 208-643-9167 number to call back and said I need to call before they serve me at my home or place of employment because I have two fraudulent charges are being filed against me. This call came in at 7:50 pm on 8/24/15. Looks like they were busy that day.

Seems to be about the same experience as everyone else here. I called them back to find out what this was about and they provided me with my info, I didn't have to give them anything.

What kind of info did they have besides your name and phone number?

These people call regularly and leave a message about fraudulent activity and they give me a case # to call back. I have found it easier to NEVER answer a call if I don't recognize the phone # or name on caller ID (even if it is in my own area code). Just don't answer those calls - caller ID is so worth it.

I've been getting the same recorded messages and even tried to call back and it was absurd. I reported them to the FCC

Received message from a woman saying 2 charges will be filed against me in my county due to fraudulent activity and that I have the right to respond before I am served. If I do not respond and I am served I fore fit my legal rights....I thought when you are served, you are then given a chance to address the charges (file a response) and/or you appear in court and address them there, etc. sounds strange.  No company or government office given, just says division of process and summons.

Criminal matters are taken up in court and paperwork is filed. If they have your information then it may be some ID theft issue. File a police report.

    Another Melissa
Same here - gives my name via automated speech system and says 2 fraud charges are being filed against me, gives a case number and says that if I don't respond I will forfeit my legal rights.

Another poster said it's a  payday loan scam collector and I suspect that is correct.  I filed bankruptcy a few years ago and my lawyer told me that any payday loans I had outstanding would be erased by the bankruptcy.  The see scumbags are just pissed about not getting any money and keep harassing people in the hopes that someone will fall for it. I'm sure some poor souls do, but don't let it be you!

They've been calling me repeatedly for months but I never get any legal actions filed against me. Why not?  Because there aren't any,  and they can't do anything to you.  Still, I don't like that they have my ssn. Let this be a lesson to everyone - don't EVER take out a payday loan. It's a BAD IDEA all the way around.  There has to be another way!

Are you sure? I am a little worried but when I called the number back it was only music. I thought if there was legal action against you--you would have some kind of certified mail to sign.

They can get your info in a database.  I forgot what is called starts with "N". Companies buy old debt and try to collect and threaten you.  No payday company will sue you over such a little amount.  Threaten with summons but my local police said would not do that, would just show without warning.  Told me never to pay them, scam.  Do not verify any info with them!!  Ask for their company name, address, and the reps name.  Then say you want in writing of everything mailed to whatever address they "have" on file.  Again...do not verify info

These scumbags try and get you to send them money to shut them up, payday loans is where they get your info, since the calls originate overseas.
They will call your work, family and anyone you put as a reference on your payday loan application.

I wish there were a reality show busting these turds.
