After paying a doctor bill over the phone with a credit card, I got an anonymous text from this number stating that a payment about three dollars more than my bill had been processed and directing me to click a link for an e-receipt.
Of course I did not and called the doctor office instead.  They said they started using a new CC processor that day and were forced to put my phone number into the screen to complete the payment.  The extra charge on my CC account was the processing fee.
None of this was known or authorized by me.  I would have mailed a check if I knew about the fee and disclosure of my phone number to a third party.
I was told that my phone number and personal information was not saved in a 3rd party data base, but I don't feel safe about that now.

Sounds sneaky to me - that they work in an addition charge. Did you get the name of the payment processor so you could check them out?

Received a text that says sale transaction of $72.52 has been approved. No idea who this is from. Not opening the link.

This was the text msg I received:  Your sale transaction of $514.43 has been approved. Click the link to download your e-receipt. https://api.ipospays.com/v1/sl/JhDQ2_200625123602.    I know better to open it the link

I received a message on 11/6/25 stating that "my $475.00 sale transaction was approved. Click on the link to download my e-receipt". The link they listed was https://api.ipospays.com/v1/sl/1hG-Bz_061125195656. Is this a legitimate website?

Do not touch that link. At best these are phishing scams, but the links can lead to a malicious site or even trigger a download of malware. You can keep an eye on your bank/CC/Debit Card accounts to make sure that no money has been taken. There are text and email versions of this sort of thing.

"Septicology" seems to be associated with an outfit that services septic tanks, based in CT. Scammers will often use the names of legit businesses to trick you into believe the text is legit.
If you haven't had septic service, that is one sign this is a scam.

Still happening from this number in 2026. Same message with a link I'm not opening, and I have not charged anything today or yesterday.

Ha!  Turns out my husband did, though.  This is a legitimate and unfortunately scammy-seeming payment portal.  The receipt had the business name down at the bottom.

What was the name and what was the service provided? Odd that the number is associated with both medical payments a septic service in other posts. Some sort of new medical treatment?

See post from JackReacher on 5/23/24, I agree, these payments and the site have at least yellow flags. If a payment portal of some sort, I would think it would be better run and have complete info about any charges made or to to be approved. The whole thing seems phishy to me.
