Recieved a call from 317-712-8989.  This number immediately made me think SCAM (phone display said INDIANA), but I thought I'd see how far I could go. Answered the call and:
Auto dialer: Hey WestJet Customer, you've won!  Press 1 to receive .....
Okay, so I press 1 and get connected to some loud & noisy call center. Everything sounded all garbled.
Lady - You've won. We just need to know a few things.
Me - Hi, can I ask your name
Lady - ummmm....<pause> Candy
Me - And Candy do you have an employee ID?
Lady - <pause> 5689.  Now all we'll need is your credit card number to secure..
Me - And can I have a phone number to call you back at please?
<pause> .... click <hang up>

I got a missed call form this # but I don't answer #s I don't know so no big   deal but it was kinda wearied!

Claimed to be AirMiles related prize- their email database was hacked recently and it looks like their customers are being targetted for a scam. Ignore!

Also just got a call from 317-712-8989 on my work phone at 1:41pm (Eastern Time).  Did not answer and they left a message (but could not understand what was said).  Once I called back, rang once and went right to recording "this number is not in service".

Yup, just rec'd a call from that number - didn't answer..mo msg left.  Thaanx for the heads-up!

It's not WestJet, Telus or whomever they say is calling; it's someone else using those names to get you to press 1.  I have heard that if you press 1 your line gets commandeered and they rack up huge long distance charges on your phone bill.  That was what a colleague said a couple years ago anyway, not sure how to verify it myself.

When in doubt, hang up or don't answer.

Just got a call from this number but I quickly googled it and found this discussion board so I didn't answer it.

I don't know anyone in Indiana, so I didn't answer. There was no message left.

Abstract

Routine activity theory predicts that changes in legitimate opportunity structures (e.g., technology) can increase the convergence of motivated offenders and suitable targets in the absence of capable guardianship. The Internet has fundamentally changed consumer practices and has simultaneously expanded opportunities for cyber-fraudsters to target online consumers. The authors draw on routine activity theory and consumer behavior research to understand how personal characteristics and online routines increase people’s exposure to motivated offenders. Using a representative sample of 922 adults from a statewide survey in Florida, the results of the regression models are consistent with prior research in that sociodemographic characteristics shape routine online activity (e.g., spending time online and making online purchases). Furthermore, indicators of routine online activity fully mediate the effect of sociodemographic characteristics on the likelihood of being targeted for fraud online. These findings support the routine activity perspective and provide a theoretically informed direction for situational crime prevention in a largely unexplored consumer context.

I hung up right away because I know Westjet doesnt solicit like that. It's probably a scamming company hired by Air Canada!

Called just about an hour ago. Calgary. Didn't answer as I didn't recognize the number.

The calls are from scammers claiming that you have won a trip. My mother, wife, and I have all gotten the call. They request a bank account number in order to "Process" your prize. Pissed me off!

Then I received another and informed the lady that I was on the Do Not Call List. She told me "Don't be such an idiot"... I mentioned her mother and other not so nice things. If you attempt to call back the number is not in service. The calls are being rerouted in some form and are international (Central - South America). MetroPCS customers... I wish I had kept my old number.

Just got another call about a  different prize from a different number today! Next time... "I no hablo espanol.. no comprendo"
As a Hispanic myself... it is just a shameful thing that these people have nothing better to do.

Called my cell phone.  But didn't  answer.

Just called me this morning... woke me up. And said, in spanish, I had won a prize from metro PCS. i just hung up

Got a call around 12:20PM Philly time, from Indiana.  No one was there when I answered

This number just called my phone but hung up before I can answer it call back n it was busy. Wonder what they got goin on.Crazy stuff
