This is called fishing. They r fishing for info. Them they will take u to cleaners. Don't answer because when u do they r stealing info from your phone.

Called asking if this was the P..... residence, since that is my two year old grandsons last name I said yes.  They were seeking to talk to his father in regard to a friend of his.

They called me and asked for Winston, I told them they had a wrong number.

They then said did I know Winston and told the lady no.   She act like I was hiding some Winston person.

Duh, already told her she had a wrong number.

Fine. But when you call people and they attempt to answer and navigate through your system and you don't respond or they can't get through it comes across as something not legitimate and its alot of that going on.  When you begin to make payments and then it is transferred to someone people don't know who you are unless you state that.

Thank you for this information!  All collection agents should be as informative and considerate!

In the past week this number has called me everyday all hours even after 9on. When asking who they are I always get the same smart reply cti, they can't give anymore information until I verify everything they want, my dob, ss#, and address. Once I told them I refuse to give person info like that to someone calling from 3000 miles away they started calling out information about me, which is 14 years old, how do you manage to get a current number but nothing else that is current. The main info they want verified is my social, no way will that happen. If this is in reguards to a student loan then why don't they have the correct address that was put on the application? Who do I contact to get the calls to stop?

Called them back at 323-446-0630, put me on hold for about 2 minutes after I went through their stupid automated menu.  When he came back, he gave me the "somebody might have used you as a 'reference' at one time" BS, and I said "Reference?  What for?"  to which he replied "Uh... maybe just to use you as a reference, but actually, in the future if we need to get a hold of you, it would be helpful if you could just give us your social, and..."

I cut him off and said, "How about you just remove my number from your system and don't call me again."

"Okay sir, we can do that."

"Do it right now."

Well my daughter asked for reduced payments and they refused to even work with her which left her no choice but not paying them because she couldn't afford the extreme notes they were trying to make her pay.  She even asked for forebearance and they refused that also.

Dont have any school loans....but thanks for bothering me.

I am glad 6that I answered the call and got myself squared away because 55% of my paycheck would have made me homeless. They are easy to work with for the most part.

People - do NOT answer the phone if you don't know the number calling you. They spoof local numbers all the time to make it appear as if it might be someone locally that you know. Don't answer the phone and do not call them back!

Once again, do NOT call them back for any reason, even if it is not you or if they have the wrong person, as they will never leave you alone.

File a complaint with the Attorney General and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Also complain to the Dept. of Educ. If enough people complain, they will be shut down as other collection agencies have been who engage in unscrupulous practices.
