this is not good whatever it is. I was called twice , on the second call the person? left nothing onvm. sounded like backround noise. couldnt make anything out. Called # back and it says were sorry the call cannot go thru, and hangs up on you. Im with the rattlesnake, please report them. I work for one of the worlds largest computer sw developers in the world, and please understand that Im seeing a gross # of increase of people that are into splicing phone signals these days, with the invention of skypes/msn chats, ect, with the new phone cable towers they just put in within the last 3 or 4 years {remember that? well those are easier to hack into} . Sigh. Hope im not wasting my time here, please report them. The govt has ways of tracing back to them and from what I have seen often times they arent from the USA, they are doing this from somewhere else. {they HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY cause us companies outsource to them {{HP* Cough* cough}} If any of this is sinking in, Bless your sweet heart.
And even if its not, please report them, I just did, thanks

Try *60 to block unwanted numbers from calling you. Our phone used to ring 5 or 6 times a day from spam callers DESPITE being on the Do Not Call Registry.

Some phone providers allow you to add up to 10-12 unwanted callers to a block list using *60 and we never knew it for the longest time. Worth a try.

yup that is the same thing that happened to me as well. Private name and when I called back it came from an out-bound call only meaning you can't call it back.

Got a call from this number saying a name like Qwest and doing a political survey and wanted to speak to the male head of household. I told him that we do not respond to surveys and he said he needed to be told that by the male head of household. I disconnected the call.

Like the others... I get calls from this number at various times of the day.  I do not answer.  When I have tried to call the number back to inform that I want to be removed from whatever list they have or tell them that they have a wrong number, I cannot get my call through to them.  An ATT standard message comes on the line instead.  I do not know this for a fact, but based on previous experience, these calls generally are generated from either ATT wanting to sell me long distance service which I already have through them or some other telemarketing attempt.  I simply do not understand why someone's phone isn't cut off for this type of behavior except for the fact that some company (ATT) is getting paid every time they make a call and get someone's answering machine etc.  It all comes down to money, not customer service.  If anyone tells you differently, they are misinformed.  This could be a residual from a dept collector who has been calling me for about three months because they think I am someone else with a similar name (not the same just similar)  I have told them four times that they have the wrong contact info and to remove me from their database, but to know avail.

Black Mamba,  It sounds like you know what you are talking about.  So I have a couple of questions.  1.  Is this the appropriate place to "report" them?  2.  Is there some sort of central repository where these callers should be reported?  3.  What are the possible ramifications for the person or company making these calls if enough reports are made?
I feel better knowing that I have at lest not sat back and done nothing, but I am not sure if I have really accomplished anything by posting here.  I would like for there to be some penalty for these people/companies abusing our "private" lives and abusing our personal time and resources.  I am signed up on the "Do Not Call" list but that doesn't seem to matter anymore to anyone because they have figured out that although penalties are specified for not following the rules, nothing ever actually happens.  And if it is true that these calls are generated from outside the country, then the US probably has no recourse.  Right?
    Thanks.     MC

Getting calls from this number daily now for about a week, recently at 9pm.  Coincidentally (?) or not, my 12 year old son told Portfolio Recovery around this time that his dad, whom they requested, is DEAD.  Now no more calls from Portfolio.. hmmm...  Thanks to that other post, I think I will join the harrassment complaints..  ( Quit picking on relatives of the recently deceased, you lousy crumb chompers. (For lack of better wording.)  You should be ashamed of your low-life selves hiding behind fictitious numbers and fake quesitionaires looking for info to collect on 10 year old written-off debts.)

Keep getting these calls with no message and no answer... BTW My cordless phones died, so I went to get new ones and Panasonic has a model which has a CALL BLOCK feature where  you can block at your phone any number in your list and it won't ring your phone, but give the caller a busy signal.  I have FIOS in my area and they don't have call blocking yet here, so this will come in handy and it won't cost me a service charge like some companies add for call blocking.
