I am visiting my family in Ottawa. I answered the phone while they were out and a lady with an accent asked for "Mrs. X".
I said she was busy and asked to take a message.
They said no.
And then I came here and it sounds like the same caller other reporters have gotten.
So it's February 2017 and they are still scamming from thus number.

I received a call from 403-879-9001 but when I called back got a message saying "call did not go through" several times.  I would like to know who called me.  My phone number is 613-544-0344

A "telemarketer" with a heavy accent phoned early today, claiming to be with some consolidated credit card agency and offering to lower our credit card interest rate to 5.9% for our lifetime because we always pay our Visa and MasterCard accounts promptly. Sensing a scam, I asked him which credit cards he was referring to, but he could only repeat they were Visas and MasterCard; he could not identify any specific card. He kept repeating his "script" when pressed. When he asked me to verify my date of birth, I asked what date he had; and, not surprisingly, he couldn't give an answer. When told he should have it already if he needed to verify it, he hung up. Thank you for your website: it confirms my conclusion that he was a fraudster.

Dont think they'll be asking for any credit info any time soon!!! I used a WHISTLE and their ears are probably bleeding now!!! Requesting credit card information, could barely understand what they were saying

I got called from this number, an Indian guy with heavy accent said he is calling from VISA MASTER Card,
that is a big give away for a fraud call, I straightly send a greeting to his mother

I got the same call.  They was going to
Lower my interest rate from 19.9% to 5.9% for life.   Knowing this was a scam  I said I have  sooooo many credit cards, which card is it.  He said MasterCard.  I don't have a MasterCard.  He said to get this I had to verify who I was.   He asked me for my birthdate. I gave him the wrong date and he said it was right.   Then he asked me for the expiry date on my credit card.   I said I am not giving that to you unless you prove to me who you are.   He said he would prove to me after I give him the information he wants.   That's when I laid into him and started yelling at him for trying to scam me.   Next time he calls I'll say hang on I just got a phone my MasterCard company and see if this is a legitimate phone call.  I'm sure he'll hang up after that

Exactly. I got that call and they wanted my credit card info and I just hung up. If there's a service I need, I will go to the bank. Do not give any information unless you have called.

This is a telemarketing scam. The 403 area code and number are spoofed, and the actual call comes from somewhere in India or Pakistan or that general area of the globe, based on the accent of the caller.  They knew my name but that isn't a big deal anymore, as it is easy to find names by using reverse phone number lookup - anyone can do that. This call is a phishing attempt, since they tried to get my credit card number(s) and "give me a better deal". No such operation exists with any legitimate bank or credit card provider.

Cut the line on these guys. Clearly they are running a fraud ring of some sort. He said he was calling from some financial bank I could not make out the company with his accent. He then hung up on me.

DON'T BOTHER CALLING

Called my home ( Langley, BC ) from Alberta...supposedly. I did not answer and no message was left.

Received a call from 403-879-9001 March 21, 2017. (Ottawa, Ontario).  The person had an east Indian accent.  Said he was calling from Visa and Mastercard.  (That was the first hint that it was a scam call.  I smiled!!  Visa and Mastercard are competitors, not partners)  When I asked which one (I wanted to see if he would decide for one or the other, he surprised me....), he said CIBC.  I said I do not have any accounts with CIBC....take me off your calling list.  He started to argue with me......but ma"am......     And I said are you going to argue with me?  TAKE ME OFF YOUR CALLING LIST.  He hung up.  SCAM call.

For those of you who are tempted to call these numbers, if you think it is suspicious, trust your gut.  It is.  If you call, you do not know what they have rigged to charge your phone company for the call.  Just hang up and move on.  Share your experience on here, but don't engage, and NEVER GIVE ANY INFORMATION TO ANYONE WHO PHONES YOU or asks you for any information by email.  If you have any questions or concerns about accounts, contact the bank or institution yourself.  Banks and credit card companies will never call you and ask you to give any personal information, unless you pre-arranged with that institution for a call-back.

When this number called I told them my number was on a do not call list and please take this number off their call list. In an Indian accent he said they couldn't do that and I yelled yes you can! ..and hung up. This [***] then called repeatedly. At first I touched answer and hung up then just answered and left the phone siting there with dead air to him. It pisses me off to no end that our do no call list is more like a publicized number list for scammers to call!

Got called from this numbers, I didn't answer. I called back to this numbers. guess what ? NOT IN SERVICE. BECAREFUL WITH THIS SCAM NUMBERS PEOPLE.

This number just called.  Didn't recognize the number and the id was blocked.  Let it go to the answering machine and then looked up the number which brought me here.
Thank God I did not answer. I've no time for these bloody scamster parasites!

Just got a call from that 403 number. I could hear some chatting in the back ground then the line went dead. Will they ever give up !!!
