These people are calling claiming to be from the state Medicare office and have a lot of information about you.  The want you to verify your contact information and also provide things like bank account information, mother's maiden name, cell phone number and more.  They say that need this in order to provide you with your new Medicare card and benefits.  They say that if you don't provide the information you will not receive your new card and your Medicare benefits will be stopped.  In talking to friends across the US, this same scam is happening in other states.  In several instances the caller claims that they are updating their  system and need the information in order to directly depost Social Security checks.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE people be aware that nobody will call you from Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid unless you have initiated a call with the particular agency.  If someone calls you from out of the blue and asks for any personal information, no matter who they say they are, this is a SCAM.  NEVER GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION ON THE PHONE UNLESS YOU HAVE INITIATED THE CALL.  I have contacted the WV State Attorney General's Office and the Federal Trade Commission to report this SCAM.  I hope by providing this information on this site that people will become educated and pass the word on to anyone (particularly Seniors) that you know.

Received a call today saying that I would be getting a new medicare card in the mail.  Verified the address and telephone number and then woman with a very strong accent asked what bank I used.  I said that I would not answer that question and she asked "why".  I said that it was not a legitimate question and hung up.

When I see this number on caller id, I lift the receiver and put it down immediately.  They keep calling, but I don't answer, just break the call.

Wilbur:  How do you block a number?  My local landline telephone company does not block out of state numbers.  They only block local area calls. I really wish they would offer out of state scam pests.

Here's an idea that I tried against the telemarketer from hell. Hey, you have to fight fire with fire, right?

After getting 3 calls a day for months, I answered the phone to turn the tables on the pest.  Here's how I answered the umteenth call:

"Federal Bureau of Investigation - Telephone Fraud Investigations."  Why of course, I got a prompt click and they never, ever, called back again.  That was two years ago!  Woo-hoo!

One more call from the TX number and they will get the same treatment.

SCAM! SCAM!  Called saying they were from Medicare and wanted to send a new Medicare Card.  Wanted to verify address and then proceeded to ask for bank account to verify.  Definitely a scam and just hang up on them.

I received a phone call this evening from Beumont, Texas 409-291-5191. A man with a thick foreign accent told me that social security was changing their MediCare card and he worked for the "social security verifacation office".

The man then told me my name and address. He wanted to verify what bank I get my social security checks sent to. He knew the number that is located on the bottom left of my checks. After he thought he had my confidence he asked if i would "GIVE him" the middle number [routing number] so he could 'verify it'. I told him to call my local security office and bank and they would contact me for the information.

He became agitated and insisted that i should give him the information or i may not get my SS check. I told him again to contact my SS office and they will call me about the information. He became more belligerant and at that point, I hung up the phone after sharing a few choice words with him.

I went to the below site and found there are a number of people getting calls from that number and being told all kinds of scams.
