I called UPMC and was told this number is a trunk line and could be used by 35,000 different people. I tried to explain that they were calling a cell phone, but got no where.

someone calls me from this number, but hangs up before I have a chance to answer. Who is this, and how can I reach them? 4123 760 6188

just got a call.  tried to answer and nobody responded.  no message.  If UPMC then what's up with no message?

Received a call on my cell phone from this number.  Caller left a message from a department of University of Pittsburgh and was in no way connected to UPMC.

University of Pittsburgh is UPMC. (university of pittsburgh medical center). its the number that shows up on caller id

Ditto to what Anon said.  UPMC and Pitt are not the same thing.  While they are affiliated with each other they are separate entities and do not have the same phone numbers.  The fake line for UPMC calls is 412-802-3100 (I don't remember the exact last 4 but it is something like this).  412-624 numbers are for Pitt.  This particular one is used for a variety of places throughout the university that don't wish to have their personal lines show up on caller id.

I just received a call from 412-624-4444 on my cell phone and it just beeped like it was a fax trying to come through

I think who ever calls from Pitt might show this number. I got a call from my professor at the Anthropology dept and it showed this number as well.

I had been getting them too, then one connected - an Alumni gift solicitation.

it is in fact an alumni relations rep (usually a current student) calling to "chat" then ask for money....if I had any money, i'd donate.  getting a masters in public sector mgt really doesnt pay well enough to have any disposable income!

Pitt alum '75 - They call my business phone during business hours. They want to update my "profile". Then they want to lighten my wallet big time.

They call at all hours and always want a donation.  Wasn't the thousands and thousands of dollars spent on my husbands education enough for them???  My kids will be going to college soon...there's our donation.  I'm sick of it.  I've asked three different times to not bother my husband and they continue. Next time I'm telling them he's missing.

412-624-4444 is the University of Pittsburgh main campus trunk line, and the operator tells me there is no way to identify whom the call actually came from.

Probably why it's so hard for them to trace bomb scares ?
Probably something that needs fixed.

I just got a call from this number from a Chemistry Professor at Pitt (in Chevron building)...people who call OUT from Pitt will show up as calling from this number UNLESS they do something to show their personal office extension.  In sum, it could be ANY department at Pitt, not necessarily soliciting donations.

someone called me from this number and hung up. I called back and went to automated message saying university of pittsburgh.

No message left, called at 1:00 PM on a Saturday.
