They called last night and woke us up. They wanted my spouse whom I said was unavailable. They said they were Scotiabank and as I was expecting a call from them ref another issue I wanted to see if that's what they were calling for but they said it was new product only for my spouse. Makes my want to change banks. But they are all the same.

    Do Not Call
We need to lobby for government measures to issue fines and penalties to telemarketers.  What ever happened to "do not call list"?

this number called me at 6pm pst. Which means it was closer to 9pm in Toronto, way passed business hours,so no this is not a legitimate service being offered from a third party with Scotia. My cards were recently compromised and I am a Scotia member so this call worries me.

I've been getting calls as well. I never pick up on the first ring so that all calls are logged.

As for why they are not there when you answer... they use an auto dialer, which dials multiple phone numbers at the same time. The first one to pick up, is the one that gets the live person, the others are hung up on. Annoying as hell, but it is one less person a company needs to hire.

They called me at around 9:30pm on a weekday in Ottawa... I didn't give them a chance to tell me who they were. When they mispronounced my name I hung up. Also when I picked up, it's as if I was calling them, some kind of queue. No waay this is a legitimate call on behalf of Scotiabank. What company calls after 5 pm?? I would believe that this is a scam.

your telephone company is as responsible as this telemarketing company. When I  laid a complaint with Northern Telephone they said there was nothing they could do.  Amazing, how two phone company employees tried to sell me a  bundle with call block at my expense of course.   Where is our government ?
    On another holiday I guess.

Feb 6 2013,  I rec'd a call on the cell at 8:50 PM and we missed it. Looked it up on Google as we did not recognize the #
It apparently is a scam to get your account information and they will steal your money. NEVER give that information out. If it really was Scotia Bank calling you they don't need your number, THEY ALREADY HAVE IT! If they are asking you questions it is because they don't have it and therefore are not who they say they are... SCAM. I read one comment that says it is OPTIMA that sells insurance for scotiabank and it hired by them. But someone else said they contacted head office for scotiabank and IT IS NOT ANYTHING THEY ARE DOING ... NOT THEM ! so... don't give them any information.

    Got called tonight
This number called and asked for me by my first name only on February 20, 2014. I didn't recognize the number so asked who was calling. She said Optima on behalf of Scotiabank. I said if I wanted to speak with my bank, I would phone them and hung up. Looked up the number on Google and came across several places saying this number was a fraud, a scam, trying to gain access to your account and take money, and others claiming they were selling insurance.

I called Scotiabank immediately after reading this stuff. The representative punched in this number and confirmed to me that this number is NOT affiliated with Scotiabank AT ALL, or any of it's companies. He said that Scotia would NOT call a customer this late at night (8;30pm), nor do they call customers to sell insurance, or any other thing, UNLESS the customer has specifically requested a call back regarding insurance. I did not request anything. He also said that Scotiabank does not have an affiliation with a company called Optima (and when you look up Optima's number, it is NOT this number).

He then transferred me to the Security Department who confirmed to me that this number IS INDEED on their list of fraud/scam numbers and I wasn't the first to call to report it tonight. They are aware of it and are attempting to deal with it. DO NOT ANSWER IF YOU SEE THIS NUMBER COME UP!!!

MR J replies to Scotiabank customer
You might not have been very well informed, Optima is a third party company that's hired by Scotia life insurance which is an affiliate with Scotia Bank. I didn't have to give them any information other than my date of birth AFTER they confirmed my account, address, and other information,
After seeing this I called Scotiabank and they said YES Optima does work through them... so NO they're not trying to steal money out of your account.

They are just trying to sell you life insurance you probably didn't want.

Please don't assume things before you post them on here and scare the hell out of people like me.
