I, like others, dutifully reported the phone numbers that *69 displayed for these "telemarketers" that were breaching the Do Not Call List. But after months of getting calls from the same numbers, I got mad enough to get hold of  a live person at the FTC.Unfortunately, I was told by the FTC that they only compile data related to breaches of the Do Not Call List for informational purposes only -- they do not actually enforce the rule by tracking down and prosecuting offenders (It turns out, many of them aren't trackable due to technology limitations, disposalble phone numbers, calls from overseas, etc). THE BOTTOM LINE: We can't rely on government to protect us; we have to protect ourselves and block these calls with services provided by our telephone service provider.

The number called was a do not solicit number.  They are in violation of law

This scam calls with an automated message stating that this is your last opportunity to lower your interest rates and that your rates will go up if you do not press 1 to speak to a representative. They do not have an operator on the line when this message is played as required by law. Once you get to an operator, the operator initially refuses to provide a phone number or address, claiming that they will lose their job if they comply with Federal law and provide that information when requested. When pushed, they provide the phone number of the InterContinental Hotel in Austin, TX and the and a non-existent Dallas street address. Their provision of manifestly false information clearly confirms that they are a scam.

I keep a log on these calls.  If you are registered as a "DO NOT CALL" number with the FTC as well as your state, there are stiff fines to these people if they call you 3 times.  The first is a 'freebie' the second counts against them, the third hangs them.  There are ways to collect fines from the people that do not follow the laws.  They require some legal paperwork, but I accomplished this and got a check for $2,500 from the offender to avoid the fine from the AG and the FTC.  You can subpoena your phone call log - get a legal form at an office supply place, bring it to your municipal or county judge at the clerk's office, tell them why you want this, and provide it to the offending caller.  Some of these calls, however, are from foreign numbers and those the FTC goes after.  You must report these infractions.  I took a photograph of my caller id log showing the name, date and time of the offender and forwarded them to the FTC.  I had collected about 5 from a local furnace cleaning company who wouldn't leave me alone.  They definitely did after this.  I have heard the FTC fine per call is $14,000.  There are ways to fight back and I'm determined to do my part.

Correction: You provide the subpoena to your phone provider and they will have to give you the call log, per the order of a judge.  Then you contact the offender and report it to the FTC and the AG.  They will file the claim and in my case, the manager of the company called me and offered me $3,500 and a promise of $500 per call if I ever reeived another.  I gave them a break and accepted $2,500.  Just consistently log these calls.  There ARE ways to stop them.

    Tired of it too
Stop vetching folks.  And that App the person described to block numbers won't help.

These callers are crooks and trying to scam you.  But the first scam that none of you seem to be aware of is that they spoof the name and number that appear on your caller ID.  Some are simply made up, but others are legitimate companies names and numbers (but not theirs) which they use to try to trick you into picking up.

Nothing you can do.  Never answer, never hit the number the msg says to be taken off their list.  All you are doing is letting them know they have reached a valid number.  The best tactic, never answer, never pick up; this way they never know if they have a valid number.

They probably will not leave a voice mail and will hang up before your voice mail answers, they don't want to pay for the call.

Eventually, they stop, or at least cut back calling you since they begin to think your number is non working.

Unfortunately, that means all your real calls have to go to voice mail and then you have to call them back.  Hopefully, they aren't using this tactic or you will never connect.

Has called every day this week, leaves no message. Credit card services scam! Doesn't do any good to complain to the FCC or the "Do NOT Call" registry (I don't think they even exist!).

Hung up on.
I wish I knew how to stop this annoying calling.  Thank God for caller ID I see a number I dont recognized I don't even bother picking up the phone!

my approach worked. threatened to trace number and that when i show up sum1 else will show up shortly after to clean up the mess. havent had any calls or messages from anybody like this ever since u can try and do it the nice legal way but obviously VIOLENCE IS THE ONLY SOLUTION ANYMORE!!!! deny that if you want but u tried everything else and it sure hasnt worked has it? u get more calls i get none. they wanna harass me i wanna break bones. the government and cops dont have the space to put us all away so everyone needs to grow a pair and start sticking up for themselves and start defending their beliefs not just voice them. goog luck and i hope they quit bugging you no matter what you choose to do.

THANKS FOR THE INFO..I did not know the FTC will not enforce the rules.  One more reason why we need to learn how to protect our selves since the government agency assigned to this problem won't.
