It already IS illegal to spoof caller ID.

The problem is not trivial - it is difficult to resolve.

All carriers are required by law to deliver all calls presented to them.

And the calls may be coming from foreign countries and routed over the internet.  These scammers can make many calls for very little money.

Yes, it's coincidence. Scammers are only increasing the number  of calls they place.  They have plenty of access to all the phone numbers there are - it's easy to buy such lists.  Also, they can just call every number in a block of numbers and create their own lists, at very little cost.

If you want to blame someone, blame the scammers who are doing this, not the companies that have zero power to stop them.

IMHO it is still worth it to block such numbers.  If you read the posts on these websites, a lot of people get calls from the same numbers for many weeks.  Yes, they may call you back from another number, but at least you may have blocked at least ONE call - and more likely, many more than one.

No, not really. That's not the IRS.

This is the first time I've received this call.  According to the message, it states I called to ask for information from a TV ad regarding some sort of insurance.  I never called this number not ask for any information.

Robo call is crooks scamming Medicare ....by sending unneeded medical devices to senior citizens.  How do these crooks get the list of senior citizens on Medicare?  How do they know they are talking to a senior citizen.  They are getting more than a list of names and phone numbers....ages and other personal information is being given out or sold by our doctors offices, hospitals, the people entrusted to handle Medicare, social security, etc.
HARASSMENT AND ROBO CALLS
We have been receiving harassing robo telephone calls for months. The telephone company is unable to block the calls because many of the harassment calls are being generated using a device called an ID spoofer which generates phony caller ID’s. The telephone solicitors are largely criminals, drug users, inmates, convicts, and scammers who refuse to follow federal no-call laws. The harassment calls, robo calls, telephone solicitors, political calls, etc., are engaging in an “Act of War” by essentially taking over your telephone.
The technology that generates digital spoofing calls with phony Caller IDs from computer APPs. Research also showed call spoofing can be generated from smart phones, I-pads, computers, robo call devices, or any device with phone access and a spoofing application. Some devices will allow spoofing and also generate robo voice traffic. Additional indication of spoofing is the fact that the Caller IDs sometimes show your own phone # as the caller ID. The ID can also contain phony names, spelling errors, invalid #s, or non-existent area codes.
The federal no-call list is a joke - the government does nothing.  The phone company wants the money from robo companies and will do nothing to stop the harassment/robo calls.

I know no one in a 434 Area Code.  They should not be calling!  I am on No-Call List!

no, they are dialing randomly generated numbers.  has nothing to do with DNC list or ANY list.  they aren't working from a list.  a computer generates phone numbers randomly to dial.

I just received this on my answering machine. ..thought it was Virginia called so returned the call . Music is playing no one picks up.

I picked up this call. They said robo call returning call at my request for backbrace.If I wanted to talk to a representative push 1, if I no longer wanted this item push 2. I pushed 2 and person comes on line foreign accent wanted to know if I still wanted back brace for my back pain on my medicare car

Answered phone.  Told me to press l to talk to person or 2 to disregard call.  Pressed 2 and person came on line.  Told me they were returning my call.  Told them I had not called and why was I receiving call.  They said "you're on medicare aren't you.  Yes I said.  They said they were calling re: arthritis in my back and knees. I again said I had not called.  SILENCE. Eventually got dial tone.  Call from Lynchberg.

I am on do not call list, please make them stop
