They have like 125 numbers!!! AND THIS ONE IS NOT ON MY LIST!!! If they are calling your CELL, and you are NOT the person they are looking for, or it's for YOU but the debt is EXPIRED (ck your state-CREDIT CARDS 3 to 10 Yrs & WRITTEN CONTRACTS -3 to 15 Yrs )or you never gave your CELL to the original DEBT CO, Check NACA ONLINE for an attorney to SUE!!!! because; "Congress passed the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (“TCPA”), 47 U.S.C. §227, to curtail the use of automated dialers and prerecorded messages to cell phones without the permission of the consumer." ...$500.00 per telephone call and $1,500.00 per telephone call if willful. !!!!
There are free phone search companies ONLINE (I found 4) that can be accessed by anyone...that show clearly in the FREE AREA that my phone number is from a CELL...And if they PAY A SMALL MONTHLY FEE can see who the CELL Number belongs to...I'D CALL IT WILLFUL!!!! I'm giving that info to my Attorney!
Other complaints can be filed; BBB, FTC, FCC, Do Not Call List, Consumer Complaints, Attorney General of State the company is located in...

The clock restarts anytime YOU take action on a debt, not when the debt changes hands. This means that when the debt collectors sell your "past statue of limitation" debt, it means nothing unless you acknowledge the debt, make a payment, promise a payment, agree to a payment schedule, etc., otherwise debt from 100 years ago would still be legitimate just because some bottom feeder claims to own it now. New activity has to be from the person who once owed the money, not a company trying to collect.

You're right, though, about filing complaints EVERY time a bottom feeder breaks the law. It may not make the company stop the illegal activity, but it certainly will slow them down over time when everyone continuously files the complains.

Can you post where you got your information from? A link, maybe?? I'm pretty clear on my rights with illegal bottom feeder activities but I've never heard, or read anywhere, about them not being able to call someone's cell phone if the person hasn't given that number to the collector. Is there a rule, then, for those who move and never forwarded their addresses? I'm interested in learning more about what you've said.

We keep receiving these calls asking for our son who doesn't live with us now.  They either hang  when/if we answer or ask for him.  We told them he no longer lives with us, but still keep calling.  I looked them up on internet and found the following information if anyone is interested:

Kick These Losers to the Curb
    JUNK DEBT BUYERS

Portfolio Recovery purchases old debt that is no longer able to be recovered under the law (each state has a statue on the amount of time someone can sue you—most states it's 5-7 years—check your laws). PRS will purchase your old debt for pennies on the $. The original lender has already written this off as a tax loss and no longer owns this debt or has any interest in it.

DO NOT PAY PRS OR LET THEM INTIMIDATE YOU. DO NOT ADMIT WHETHER THE DEBT IS YOURS--SAY YOU DON'T REMEMBER IT.  Send them a cease and desist contact letter stating they may not contact you any longer. Send it certified return receipt. If they continue you can sue THEM for violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices act and get awarded damages ($$). Also, you can easily force them to remove any dings to your credit report if they are reporting on your CR just by writing a letter.

For more info  visit the discussion board at CREDITBOARDS {dot} COM. This helped me immensely.

For a TON of info on this stuff, check out creditboards (dot) com and go to the discussion boards. Helped me immensely years ago. Lots of info but look under the new/getting started/new to the boards section and also search for specific info you're looking for (e.g., the statute of limitations in your state, samples of cease and desist letters, etc.). Good luck!

Whenever debt collectors call my number looking for someone I will not hesitate to give you up.  If I have the information of someone they're looking for, I will give you up.  And won't blink an eye doing it.  If the person they're looking for doesn't want debt collectors calling me, you better make sure they don't have my number.  I WILL GIVE YOU UP!  Pay your phreaking bill.

This is funny! portfolio has been calling for my fiance at this same number for oh about a yr or so now over a medical bill of his from about 7 years ago [hospital bill, he incurred after being a victim in a crime, and was not supposed to get the bill for ] At one point when I answered I did speak with them and may have given my name [don't remember?] today they called from "maryland call", and I was planning to say he  had moved out of country when they asked for him. Instead, they asked for ME. I told them they had the wrong number. Reply was " but you do know A ... [insert first and last name], don't you?  I was like No...? and they said Oh ok and hung up

When Portfolio Recovery (443-313-1382) calls within TWO - THREE minutes afterwards I receive a call from
    (caller ID)  Kentucky 606-833-0105.

These two call around 8:00 PM
This has been going on for over a year.  I owe no debts but a past girlfriend probably does.

The two mentioned above use to call in the morning between 8-9 am.  What I did to get them to call in late
evening hours was to take the phone off the hook between 7:30 - 9:00 pm.  Once they started getting a busy signal during that 90 minutes the early morning calls stopped and the only call in the evening.

All my friends know to call my cell phone anytime my home number is busy.

Google number-anything I can do to help.
I too have suffered from the loss of a career due to circumstances out of my control.  I would get SEVERAL calls a day from COLLECTION COMPANIES who purchased my debt from capital one, as well as others.  I would ask the phone caller over and over again to stop calling me and of course the calls continued to no avail.  So, about 7 months ago I ported my KNOWN number into google for about 20 bucks.  Google has an awesome SPAM filter for those unwanted calls.  Now, when a debt collector calls my "known" number for the first time, I don't pick it up, it registers the number on the Google caller ID, I look it up and if I find info (much like I did with the number 4433131382) I simply BLOCK IT. And if there is no info, I call it back with my known number and ask who it is.  When the debt guy/gal tells me that they are looking for me, I simply tell them they have the wrong number (politely..thats important) and then I BLOCK the number.   Now, when the debt collector attempts to call my known number, the caller hears "sorry the number you are trying to call has been disconnected", and my phone never rings! :O  In the event I want to see how many times they have attempted to call me, I simply look in my spam folder.  IMPORTANT: If you want to port your number into google, you are going to have to learn how to use the service correctly, so those who you want to get a call from (friends, family, etc) using your known number, will continue to be able to get ahold of you. Simply forward your known number (that you ported into Google) to your new number (your carrier will provide when you port your known number into google) and never give the new number to anyone (except maybe family, if you want) and never, never put your new number on any application, flyer,or to use it to enter into a contest.  AND..this is the most important one... TELL YOUR CARRIER TO UNLIST YOUR NEW NUMBER AND OPT OUT OF EVERYTHING.  Basically make your new number invisible.  [Here is what I did. Ported my number into Google, dropped my carrier (AT&T), switched to Virgin Mobile (love them!), and registered my phone under the name "john doe".  Now, I not only pay 36% less every month, but I get to keep my known number I have had for years and all of my phones (house, cell, iPad, iMac,PC etc) ring when I get a call and I never get a collection call]  God Bless!
