Got the same email and fell prey to this scam by wiring fake money they had sent to us.  We lost $1600.  I hope they run and hide because I will hunt them down.

Received the exact e-mail yesterday to a similar ad placed on CL. Thanks for the heads up.

Got an email similar, almost identical, to the one above from a scammer identifying themself as "Alicia Madrigal" and the following email below.  She gave this phone number as her reference.

"I will be coming before the end of the month,i don't know the date yet but will get back to you with my flight details and information when i get it so that you can know the exact time I'll be arriving.I also got the picture you attached and I hope to meet you real soon.Concerning the payment, I have a financier that will be handling the rent deposit payment on my behalf,i will instruct him to make the payment  for this as soon as you give me the go ahead to make payment to you.Kindly get back to me with your full name, contact address your phone number so that the check can be sent to you and you can get it on time.This will give me strong prove that the room will be hold for me.... cant wait to read from you.

We lost over $2000. With a same story!!!  by this [***] - Jessica Manney!!! We were communicating with her for a while! what is a professional SCAMER. They are working as a team. We did called all the number she provided. I cant believe this!

I received the identical email.  Thank you for posting scam info.  It saved me problems.  I became concerned when I received a similar email from Jennifer Rusell " i will be working
with the United State Environmental Protection Agency on a private
research work".....               .  

And then Jeannette cannot provide me with business references at SF General Hospital.

I'm getting the same message. My question is how do they eventually ask for money? -- I'm getting several of these type responses to my rental ad on craigslist, all with 447 numbers asking for my address and cell phone number so they can hurry up and send me money.

I got the same # today from Mary Young <amyoungnow@gmail.com> who responded to my ad on craiglist.

I got a response to my craigslist ad from these people (as well as other scams).  I was just wondering if there is someone to report them to?  I am sorry if anyone has fallen for this stuff.  I just want to rent a room not deal with this [***]!

Got a similar response to my craigslist ad. The first email was from Mary Young, with an email address of kimbooooba@gmail.com. I was suspicious of the email address but I replied saying that the room is available. Then Mary Young replied with a different email address, this time amyoungnow@gmail.com, exact same email as Julie's.

I googled the phone number and found this website. Hopefully people don't fall for these scammers, thanks to website like this!

I received an email from a so-called Alicia Morgan. She replied to an ad on Craigslist I posted regarding a room for rent. She asked for my bank information but I refused to give it to her, thanks to this website!

I got the same thing! WARNING!!!!!

THE SCAM WILL HAVE A CHECK SENT TO YOU AND THEN AFTER YOU DEPOSIT IT, THEY WILL SAY THEY NEED THE MONEY BACK. THE CHECKS TAKE SO LONG TO PROCESS THAT THE BANK WILL RECIEVE NOTICE IT IS NOT GOOD, AND YOU SENT REAL MONEY BACK FOR A REFUN!

Did no one try and cash the check, then not give them money until the check clears? or does the bank tell you it clears then they are wrong? I am just confused on how the scam part actually works. I actually put up a room for rent, and one person emailed me saying they were coming to my area to get their masters in microbiology. Moving from the UK. Red flag went up because there are not many good colleges close to me. Bigger red flag went up with 2 days later, two other people from the UK emailed me all spontaneously wanting to move to Ottawa IL.

But yea if you could tell me how this actually scam works I'd appreciate it. I think it'd be funny to play along and be a jerk to them...
