happened to my mother last night.when we woke up this morning we had a bunch of home phone messages from some friends saying they recieved a strange email from her. funny thing is that the hacker must have read a ton of her previously sent emails because he built some info in the spam email from previous events that we experienced earlier this summer (including a trip to the UK) Not sure how many contacts it was sent to but im really tempted to call the "hotel" number, although it would be long distance since im in canada!

It’s me, Canan. I really don't mean to inconvenience you, I made a trip to Scotland and I misplaced my luggage that contains my passport and credit cards. I know this may sound odd but it all happened very fast. Please, I'm short of funds to pay for my hotel bills and other miscellaneous expenses. Can you lend me some funds? I'm willing to pay back as soon as I return home.

Please respond as soon as you get this message, so I can forward you my details to send fund to me, you can reach me via the hotel's desk phone if you can. The numbers are, +447045733705.

    I await your response,

    Canan Cakirlar.

I received the same exact message and I want to know how and why it happens. Can it be tracked? Can the police get involved to STOP this from happening? I know it is a scam because the person whose supposed to be "away" was working right beside me.

Got this scam message today, but instead of UK, this guy now has travelled to Scotland, where he also lost his luggage. Can anyone say who really gets the message if you reply to it, the scammer or the real owner of the account?

same problem, got an email from a friend asking for funds after lugage with pport and ccards were stolen. It may be an idea to ask some questions first whenever you get this type of mail. I asked them "sure, just to check, where did we last meet and what is our cat's name? (we had a dog, actually)". It has gone quiet since.

Hi, I got a similar message from a distant relative in US. As the mail account has been hacked, and also the contact addresses, i assume, what happens to your mothers email address. Does she get any mail at all (assume all her mail goes to the scammer?).  Does she have to open up a new mail account?
