- S. Main ChiropracticThis is one of a number of scams that have been growing in number in recent months. "True Yellow Pages", "Yellow Pages Online", "ZipWeb", etc etc. Are all examples of this. They call to "update your information for your free listing". Their web listing either does not exist or does not turn up on any search engines (I have checked this myself as well as having friends who work for Google and Yahoo check into it, this is a total scam). Uninformed person likes idea of free listing and gives the info, at some point the caller gets the uninformed person to say the word "Yes", at which point they sign them up for the pay service after a 30-day trial (they bill via 3rd party through your phone bill), basically they will take the audio recording of you saying "Yes" and paste it to a statement by their rep asking if you understand the Terms and Conditions of their service, essentially screwing you. This will make it very difficult to both quit the 'service' and to get back what you've been billed.
Best things to do are as follows:
1. Put a 3rd-party billing block on your phone bill ASAP. Your phone company should do this for no charge to you.
2. Do not under any circumstances say "Yes" or anything that can be taken as an affirmative statement. These scams will take that and paste it to their rep asking if you understand the Terms and Conditions of their service, essentially screwing you.
3. When they call, tell them to remove you from their calling list. They are trained to ignore this and press for you to update your information. At that point, raise your voice and threaten lawsuits against both the company and the representative personally. Be agressive, verbally tear them a new one. Do this for about one minute, and if they have not already disconnected, then hang up. You will be much more likely to be removed from their lists if you are forceful bordering on abusive on the phone. (I've managed to get off the lists of ZipWeb and a couple of the "YellowPages" scams using this approach).
4. (Most Important) Do NOT feel bad about being abusive toward the rep. These reps know full well what kind of "business" they are working for, so they are not without sin here. This is what you must do to get this to stop, so do not hesitate to do it. - DavidSomeone called trying to give a free listing on the yellow pages. We are on
the national do not call list. He hung up when I started to tell him that we were on the list. I was unable to call the number!!!! - JaneGWe get so many of these types of calls at our small business. Time spent on these nuisance calls is time we don't spend doing things for our business and our customers.
I've started asking these callers for the web address of the website where we supposedly "already have a free listing", and tell them I'd like to look at it first before giving them any information. Then the stuttering and stammering begins.
Today's caller said he wasn't authorized to give me the website information so I told him I wasn't authorized to give him any of our company information, and then I promptly hung up.- Caller: Yellow Pages, he said
- KathySame thing happened here (near Philadelphia). No matter how many times I ask to be removed from their list, they keep calling.

Told guy this morning that I have requested they not call and he said "I will call several times a day" I said excuse me? He said "Yes can call several times a day" accent to all these people-usually can detect but this number stumped me. Being a business it is difficult to catch them all before answering
