I had a text this morning from 60006 supposedly from Environment Agency. Telling me I live in a area at risk of flooding. The service is free!! Telling me that I could opt out by texting 60006.  I had another message earlier this week supposedly from DVLA - about a supposed refund due to me. My number is obviously being passed around.

Just got this text "Hello from the Environment Agency. You live in an area at risk of flooding. We'll either call or text this number to let you know if there's a flood warning in your area. This service is free.  More information bit.ly/2iKHLyJ. To opt out text REMOVE to 60006"

Smells like a scam. Don't click the link. Blocked.

It's not a scam. The government is signing us all up for that service by default. You can check their official floods warnings website (ends in .gov.uk). It says on that website too that you should text 60006 if you want to opt out. So, it's genuine but anyway floods are not that frequent so hopefully we'll never get another text.

Put a block on the number using the menu once you open the txt to read it. Won't cost you anything and txts from that No. won't get through to your txt inbox.
