Yesterday we just listed caravan and car for $42,000 on Gumtree. Within hours has sms to phone from Rodney Davis with from ctmusicman at bottom. I sent email and he replied he was very interested but overseas and wanted palpay details so he could deposit money - he didn't ask one question about the car or van which raised our suspicions. Can't Gumtree have warning list on their site.

Looks like we have been hit on by Rodney Davis -no phone number but listed as ctmusicman, wanting to buy a new listing we had on Gumtree for $42000 without asking any questions. I was asked to contact him on  rodvies@gmail.com.
He responded saying that not to sell to anyone else as he would definitely buy it.
Sounded sus so we googled the details we had and thankfully found it to be a scam.

I have experienced the same problem with GARRET KNIGHT but he gave me another address:

Omg the exact has happened to me...he told me tO deposit £500 through western union and that he has deposited money in to my Barclays account but to access that I need to pay western union first ...I thought it was doggy as y couldnt he send it direct if he can contact me via email he obviously has Internet ...really pissed of as he has strung me along on his stupid scam for days

Same thing happened to me yesterday.he Wanted 900 to release funds  after saying he bought my bike. Haha i told him to [***] off and i only look stupid . Not actually stupid....bruce willies malaysia. Petronas tankers. These guys are unbelievable

Just had the same thing happen to me,  I am selling a bus on gumtree,  this Rodney Davies <rodvies1@gmail.com> says he wants to buy it definetley, no haggling of price or anything, just wants me to give bank account details or paypal.

i just sent him a bus is sold and check out this site for other buses.  I gave him this websites address

Hi same thing happened to us, we listed our car on gumtree to sell and received a text shortly after from Ken Wellson from +1 (910) 264-3662 ( 19102643662 ).
He then gave an email address of k.wellson at yahoo dot com..........weird I know. (k.wellson@yahoo.com)

We emailed and he seemed interested, even asked for more photos, he then gave the details below

We then emptied a bank account and gave him these details, we then received a PayPal payment saying he had deposited a lot more money, and that could we pay the shipping costs....... To the below.....

He then started to refer to the car as merchandise..... And becoming more impatient, although I had googled ken Wellson originally nothing came up, luckily this other stuff does, he wanted us to make a payment through western union before releasing the funds.

Hate scum like this, preying on people, totally disgusting.

Got a text message regarding a car I listed on Gumtree. Looking me to email in stead of just calling me looking a price and other info that was on listing. He said he owned a Southern Company. I looked up could'nt find then I seen a lot of scam comments about him. Turns out hes in Kuala Lumpa Maylasia.

WATCH OUT EVERYONE

Gumtree won't print a warning - they aren't interested.  Paypal (the real one) showed a slight dreamy interest but no one else seems to give a ****.   Anyone managing to catch the [***] please give me a call before killing him so I can come help.  philla39@yahoo.co.uk

This bloke is one busy ****. same story, Huey Dallas, oil rig worker getting his "courier" to deal with paperwork and collection of my car advertised on gumtree. I was quite happy to receive payment via PayPal but alarm bells rang when he claimed it would only cost £500 to ship my car overseas.

PayPal email he sent claiming to be holding the money was quite believable apart from the dodgy email address and asking to reply to another email with any questions. And the fact I signed into PayPal to see no held funds or any mention sort of gave the game away.

7/10 for effort.

I was selling a car on gumtree and had a text off mark rutter saying that he was interested and was the car still for sale, he wanted us to contact him back by email (markrutter38 @yahoo.com).
They tried to con me into sending some money to western union £650.00.  garret knight in kuala lumpur. They said once i paid my bank account would be credited.  They used the name mark rutter, said he worked on an oil rig and wanted to by my car.  BEWARE they are sending emails claiming to be paypal.  I forwarded all the emails to paypal and they confirmed it was a scam, luckly i did not send any money.  dont get caught out!

I got emails from Williams Brett (wb801153@gmail.com), he wanted to buy my merchandise. He wrote me that he has sent the money to my PayPal but of course I didn't get the money. He urged me to send money to a Shipping Company for the delivery (550$ + 50$ transfer charges) as soon as possible and they will come to pick up my goods. He is a swindler!
