- TexasPatGot same message from this number as did others who posted. Truncated vm with Robo female voice saying "may got compromised. If you one using Microsoft Windows in your computer, then call (said phone number) and press 1 to speak to security team now. Please ignore if we called you by mistake." It seems they're getting more sophisticated, huh?
- Caller: Windows Security Help Center
- Peter replies to PensionerIs it not possible to backtrack this number as a landline or, if it's VoIP somehow figure out how to track back a voice over IP call? Based on the accent it's someplace in India but really we have no way of knowing that. I'm really surprised the DOJ or someone else is not really gotten after this sort of thing. It's completely out of hand. Old people in particular are subject to this nonsense. I spoke at length to one of these clowns and I must admit he was very convincing particularly when I challenged him on "perhaps you should answer to your own God" That really got to him. It caused a complete change in tact however he never abandoned the scam.
- JoeI received a message claiming that someone was trying to hack Microsoft Windows on my computer and to press 1 to speak with someone from the security team. Unlike others who received messages from this number, the person who left this message spoke clear, unaccented American English.
