I received a text from hangout.org, #6245, the text stated they received my number from a friend and wanted to have coffee sometime. Is this spam? has anyone else received this? how did they get my number, I don't give it to anyone but family. Is it a person or a company? I hope someone has the answers because I got a little freaked out.

I got the same message and it did the same thing...freaked me out....l went to a cop friend of mine for trouble with an x boyfriend and thought it was him doing this crap...

My only advice is to ignore that text message and move on with your life.Though if the text messages keeps coming from this same #:  then you should report it to the police IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

This is obviously spam, just as we receive in our e-mails. 6245 means it is being sent from an e-mail address to our phones.

No one should be freaking out as if this is personal! It is possible that they are using phone numbers from a source list purchased, just as telemarketers can do, but it is more likely that they have a program that randomly creates phone numbers and sends out this text message in order to gain hits on whatever website they are plugging at that time.

It's spam / advertising on your phone. Not personal. Move on.


For other people commenting that they received messages from this number that do NOT contain a link to a website, that is more likely a friend sending you a text message from their e-mail address or web client.

I called Telus and asked if I could block the number.  They advised me that people can email your mobile phone number.  I do not receive any messages from people via email so they suggested that I block any incoming email messages.  Suits me just fine.  Problem Solved.  I suppose they accessed my email repertoire and received my number when I email myself pictures of my son.
