I received a call from this number as well on my cell. I did not answer to avoid long distance charges and they did not leave a message. Sounds fishy to me!

    These people are lepers
It's the lepers from Scotiabank trying to sell insurance.

Tactic #1: Don't answer. You know the number. Whatever you do don't call back and get a long distance charge on your phone bill.

Tactic #2: Scream loud or blow a whistle into the phone. Hopefully you cause some ear damage on the other end of the line. Swearing creatively works good too.

Tactic#3: Waste their time. Tell them you're really interested. Pretend you're very stupid and want to buy every policy at the highest prices. Request more information for about 10 to 20 minutes then tell them you're just punking them. This is fun alone or with friends and the speakerphone on.

Tactic#4: Talk to them a couple minutes then get upset and demand their supervisor get online. Make sexual harassment alllegations. This is the best one. They never phone back.

Tactic#5: Take the conversation over immediately. Did you go to telemarketer college? Is there a telemarketer Olympics? I'm very interested in becoming a leper like you. Do they have telemarketer ride alongs? Have you considered becoming a more professional leper? You must be an environmental leper. Are you recycling the ear wax? Make leper candles.

Tactic#6: "May I speak to,..." I'm sorry you dialed the wrong phone number again. This is not the suicide prevention hotline phone number. Do everybody a favour telemarketer, get help or finish the job.

Just so you know, you should report them to the CRTC.  (Part III Section 23 of the Unsolicited Telecommunication Rules)

    23. Subject to section 24, a telemarketing telecommunication is restricted to the following hours: 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays (Monday to Friday); and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends (Saturday and Sunday). The hours refer to those of the consumer receiving the telemarketing telecommunication.

    24. A telemarketing telecommunication is restricted to the hours set out in or pursuant to provincial legislation that governs an activity where the hours set out in the provincial legislation are more restrictive that those set out in section 23, provided that the telecommunication is made for the purpose of that activity. The hours refer to those of the consumer receiving the telecommunication.

Legit, Scotiabank Insurance Offers. Luckily I signed up and had to spend 8 days in hospital and my plan paid me 2250.00 in my account. They pay each day your are hospitalized, plus an additional 3 days. Depends on the policy your select. I am 34 and my rate is low for having maxed out insurance. For me & hubby, its 17/month.

Opened an account in the summer with them and it was a big gong show with clearing cheques and even getting my card to work, went to use the account today and it was closed (from what the teller said) so it could be them up dating me on the gong show progress. I have 2 phones it was on the number that I used on that account (it was on my cheap scrappy phone that I give out for signing up, ads, etc).

I've had this number call me a few times so far, but they hang up as soon as I answer so I'm not even sure who they are beyond what I see here. I do have a Scotia account so it would seem to match what I read here.
