I received my Virgin bill today to find that I've had at least 4 of these £3 charges (possibly upto 8). Like everyone else, I have never subscribed for ringtones cos I know the extortionate charges they make nor have I received any from this so called service. The only ID I have is the number and my bill shows 'Text service received' but, guess what, like you, I haven't received any texts.
I've just spoken to Virgin Mobile who text me the phone number of PHONEPAY PLUS who are the REGULATORY BODY FOR PREMIUM RATE TELEPHONE SERVICES. THE NUMBER IS 0800 500212 AND THEY ARE OPEN MONDAY TO FRIDAY 8AM-6PM.
They guy from Virgin is putting through an investigation request on the 700138151 number and told me I will receive a call back from them within 2 weeks max with any info about the number and about getting a refund.
He also said that I should be able to get a number that I can text STOP to but I just went back to the previous page on here and text the number that JamesR gave on 17 March. I've now also received two texts back so I hope I don't get anymore of these charges. Thanks for that James.
If I get any useful info when I ring Phonepay Plus tomorrow and if Virgin find anything out, I'll come back and let you know.
Thanks to everyone on here for their help, now I don't feel like I'm dealing with this problem on my own.

I too had this number appear on my phone 6 times within the last month, and for what, nothing. After ringing VIRGIN mobile to ask why i had £18 added on to my account, the lady told my that it came from the same number as all you would liked to have not received aswell? She too told me they would investigate the number and that it would take up to 2 weeks to get back to me. After i but the number in google, and read all the other comments i thought i would ring VIRGIN back to get the number barred, only to now find out that they, to do this have to block my picture messaging and internet access!!!! Whats the point of having a phone that takes and receives messages that will no longer work??? And did anyone else realise that its Virgin and T mobile customers that are receiving the number, why, becasue they run off each other. Have they thought it's there internet that is to blame of the people that use it?????

Sent them a letter, they denied a refund. As their UK offices are currently closed, I called their US offices. The person I spoke to said they should give me a call tomorrow, but I'm not hopeful. As 2Ergo are the people actually doing the billing, I'm going to demand a refund from them and not wait for Mobile CRM. Interesting to note that "Mobile CRM" don't seem to be listed in the companies house database.

I've been charged £12, but it's the principle, right?

I also have been subject to an automatic subscription to Tonesite. I called my service provider Orange and they told me I could either Call the care number 0844 5796340 to get it stopped for 11.7 pence a minute or text 'Stop' to 87448 for a 10 pence charge but "Third party subscriber services are out of our duristiction and there is nothing we can do from this end"

So from this I have concluded:
    1) Orange are a useless network provider
    2) We can all be Stolen from by any 3rd party who has our numbers
    3) No one in power is doing anything to stop this.

I'm soon to revert to one of those ever faithfull landline phones that never took more than they deserved.

As I work for a Mobile Network Provider in the UK, I know that these 3rd party companies randomly generate mobile numbers.

Therefore, they'll select 07 and then a random mix of 9 mumbers. Or, in some cases, they'll call a number, if it rings at network level, then it'll subscribe you.

No mobile network will ever pass on your phone numbers to these companies because each network will want you to use their own WAP portal to download ringtones and graphics.

Unfortunately, although mobile networks are processing some refunds for you, ultimately, the refund requests need to be directed to the 3rd party companies. As non of the Network Operators pocket ANY monies from these scams.

I know this may not help some of you but i can assure you that this isn't the network operators fault.

    :)

I have been charged £15 to my tmobile bill. Tmobile pointed me in the direction of mobileshop.co.uk who work under Mobile CRM. Called MobileShop who told me there was no manager there to get a refund and when i asked to be put through to the complaints dept I was told there is no phones there.  I am now in the process of speaking to offcom and trading standards as well as writing to mobile crm to get a refund. I was however told by a member of there staff not to hold my breath.

How can his company be allowed to STEAL from innocent mobile users. Please all raise you compleints with offcom and trading standards the more that do will give us a better chance of stopping this ridiculous scam.

In the middle of a recession as well.... how very dare u

Similar experience with 5 £3 charges. I logged complaints with Virgin and Phonepayplus. Virgin will not refund but gave me number of 2 Ergo. I called them & they stopped my "contract" (ha ha) & said they'd call me about a refund. 10 days later - nothing. Today I've written to 2 ergo in London threatening to claim through "Her Majesty's Courts Money Claim Online" scheme if they don't refund within 10 days and also to log a complaint on their name with Phonepayplus....and I'm not kidding, I would do the same for just £1!

    Networks DO take a cut
Get your MP involved, this scam is growing day by day!

Your MP can be found using the following link, and while you look you can then send an email.

    http://findyourmp.parliament.uk/commons/l/

    http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Paymentbymobile/

    http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t28779.html?

For those of you who think that the networks don't take a cut, you are simply wrong, they take the lion's share. They should be the ones to regulate this, they know who you are, have details of the texts sent (it is law for them to keep the infomation now) they know who they are passing the money on to, and they allow it to happen.

Some networks will bar all premium rate messages, but premium rate messaging is an opt out not opt in service.

Spread the word get everyone to opt out of preium rate messages, after all if you are that desperate for the latesst ringtone, download it to your phone yourself, buy a legit copy of the tune and copy it across using your computer.

A nightmare - like everyone else only found out what it was about when I got the bill, I'm with Vodaphone who push you from pillar to post.  However, Mobile Shop who they tell you to talk to are well and truly ready for the queries and a) gave me this web address and b) gave me the number for the customer service chap at Vodaphone, as she said when you call you need all the amo otherwise they wriggle out of it.

What a relief to find that I am not going mad.  I have had charges like everyone else here, added to my Orange phone bill.  I was and am adamant that I have never subscribed to any ringtones or similar.

The charges last month pushed my bill up so much it was obvious something was amiss as my bill amount is always approximately the same.  Orange gave me a number to ring but all I got was an answering machine.  This months bill has less charges on it but they are still there.

I got another number from Orange 0161 8744222 to ring and this time I was able to speak to a human. I was also given this email address - service.request@2ergo.com

Tonesite said that they would cancel the subscription (what subscription I asked) and I have now received a service message from Tonesite Club saying my subscription has been stopped.  Helpline number - 08445796359

I hope all of you have success in stopping these people stealing your money.

Horrified to see £36.00 out of my account in last two bills. Serves me right for checking up on my daughters phone bill on-line to make sure she isn't mis-using her phone (she's 10), & not checking my own.
Goodness knows what would've happened if it had been her phone. I may not have  believed that she hadn't subscibed to some music download or something.
Virgin less than helpful (surprise!), but what gets me is they say they've no idea who the number is for! Just the lead page of this site proves that you can flag up problem numbers immediately.
Have got through on the 88066 number so fingers crossed!
Note to Chris W. My options from Virgin: suspend ALL services, or change number!
