I have recieved four calls from this number today 8/20/07. It said to hold for a connecting number. I hung up.

I suspect Kevin is right that this number is ConEdison. I too have received several calls from this number all with no left messages and each time was when I was late paying my ConEdison bill.

This no. has called 10 times in two days, no messages. I paid the Con Ed bill so they can't be bugging me about that.

It's Con Edison's Account Collections Department.

This is not Con Edison.
They called me 3 times in a week on my cell.
There is some company saying that they are calling regarding my Con Edison Bill and when I asked if they are Con Edison they kept repeating that is regarding my Con Edison bill.

Then I asked the name of their company (like 4 times) and the best answer I got was that they are calling from Brooklyn (I live in Westchester).
When I asked them how they got my phone number they kept using the Con Edison name like I suposed to be impresed by that (Con Edison doesn't have my cell phone number on file).
Even after I told them not to call me anymore because I'm on "do not call" list https://www.donotcall.gov/ they still called me the next day with unkown number.

Cristina is correct. This Is Not ConEd. ConEd would leave a message if they where calling about late payment. I recieved a call around the same time as everyone else (8:15am) and didn't pickup because I was on my way out the door but thought it was a bit wierd that Consolidated Edison would call so early in the morning.

I too have been receiving calls from this number.   If it was ConEdison they would identify themselves up front.   Thank goodness for caller ID.  At least I am aware of who is calling.

So far I received 4 calls today from the coned wannabes. I'm so glad there are sites like this. I hate getting calls from people I don't know; especially when they don't leave messages. I saved the number to my phone and put the ringer to no sound. That way, I'll only know they called when I happen to check my phone. I wish there was a way to block the number like you can block emails

this # is NOT ConEd! they're just flat out CONS.. i know for a fact i dont owe them anything, and they'll call as early as 8AM & all through out the day & leave NO messages whatsoever. just a few hours ago, they called me twice & saw that they left a message, except that it was automated.  for one, i dont know why Con Ed would call so early OR so late. MAKE SURE YOU LOOK INTO IT & if it bothers you that much, contact Con Ed themselves from their website.. and then call your telephone provider & tell them to block this #. its seriously annoying the heck outta me

i think its one of thiose companys trying to get you to switch over AMBIT ENERGY they have a rate thats higher in the long run than con ed do not be fooled

HOW late?

Called me at 8:30 this morning and again now at 10:55 a.m. I missed the first call, picked up the second, waited about 15 seconds while it went through the bs about trying to connect me, hung up, googled the number, and here I am. I hate crap like this but appreciate being able to track down what's going on in 10 seconds thanks to the internet.

Simply call back the number and you'll see it's ConEd.

I experienced multiple calls like everyone so I just called back. ConEd.

This number, 718-222- 7178 is quite bothersome! I'm having a very similar experience as everyone else and have called ConEd to investigate.
