dodgy text saying contact this web address for a suspicious payment

I got a 2 texts and 2 calls this evening!!!
Bloody scammers!

the text I keep getting says
PayPal: reply with your code or enter it on the PayPal website. it has the code linked . I called PayPal and they advised it didn't come from them

i received the same text. paypal rep says it is a scam.

This is definitely a scam that’s gone on for years. The sender pretends to be PayPal but apparently it is someone whose able to get that number to appear when sending texts. The texts say things like “PayPal fraud alert: are you trying to pay xxx$ USD? If yes, reply 1. If no, reply 2. Msg & data rates apply.

Same thing happened to me today. deleted the message right away after a quick research found out the number is similar to paypal, paypal being 72972 to what I read , i have no clue if its true !!! ( no verified source on that) and the scammer uses 729725. dont fall for it

Very shady. I did have a recent transaction on eBay with the seller named in the text, but I did not use PayPal for the amount listed. Seems like the seller (or some unknown entity) is masquerading as PayPal and phishing for info via text message.

It's most likely a scam.  If you have Paypal setup, any texts you receive from them (IE- 6 digit authentication login #) will be from a SMS text 72975; not 729725.  The latter of the 2 I've already received a suspicious SMS text (on 10/13 & 11/20) with the following: "PayPal: Thanks for checking out with Paypal. Reply "Y" to confirm we have the right number for you. Msg & data rates may apply."

Just received the text.  I replied "n" and they sent me a text asking me to reset my password at www.paypal.com/signin. I'm hoping that if I just don't bother going to reset my password, nothing will happen.  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

729725,47639,72975,80464 keep texting y everyday after asking to stop  using my phone number for harassment

Scam pretending to be PayPal looks like it’s been going on for years since 2015

Yeah it was someone from PayPal saying that I've got a penny added to my account so I'm assuming someone's trying to use my account.

Probably not PayPal. I bet that if you responded to them they would want access to your account.
