- Tired of these callsMy caller ID shows: Children's Cancer
- Caller: Children's Cancer
- Call type: Telemarketer
- John-of-Lower-MerionLive call from (609) 318-6033
Caller ID: Childrens Cance[r]
Also called from: (609) 318-6033 (16 January 2014) | (848) 248-4676 (26 November 2013 & 21 May, 2013)
To my surprise, this was a live person on the line. It was "Vanessa" soliciting for donations for Children With Cancer. They asked for my wife by first name but when I said she is not here, she said she can talk to me.
Here is roughly how the call went:
Vanessa: "...my name is Vanessa and I'm a professional fundraiser for Children With Cancer. If we send you an envelope, can we count on you for something small?"
I said "Do you mean like one of those little cross folded ribbons?" but she didn't get my joke and suggested I might like to donate $40.
me: "What percent of my contribution actually goes to help cancer patients?"
Vanessa: "When you donate, only 15% goes to fight cancer, 85% goes to the administrative costs of fundraising..."
me: "Only 15%? That's not very much, is it?"
Vanessa: "Can we count on your support at the $40 level?"
me: "15% isn't very much..."
Vanessa certainly was very professional and well trained. Every time I was negative, she steered the conversation back to "can we count on your support?" She really did try to get me to donate but finally gave up.
They last called on 16 January 2014, 26 November 2013 and on 21 May 2013 and we went through the same conversation about such a small amount going to the charity and now with two refusals under my belt, I certainly don't want to have them call me again in the near future.
Wasting their time is what they most dread. If they're on with you and fail to secure a donation, they potentially miss out because they're not calling some other sucker.

I try to record these calls using Google Voice, but this particular call came in on our other phone number so I wasn't able to record the call.

- Fed upI got a call from this number today that used the name Children's Cancer something. How outrageous to try and prey on people with such a serious subject! I don't take calls from numbers I cannot recognize, even if there's a name on the caller ID. These people have got to be stopped and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!

- annoyedI received a call at 8am from this number and the phone woke me up. I was not fully awake so when the woman asked for "Linda", I said yeah, this is Linda.(which I regret, because I wasn't thinking clearly) I then asked who was calling and she never answered me. I got so ticked off that I yelled "what do you want"? and slammed the phone down. Normally, I dont react this way and just hang up if the person does not answer me, but I am so sick and tired of these calls. I usually screen all of my calls on an answering machine and don't pick up unless the person identifies who is calling. I have been on the Don Not Call Registry for years. A lot of good that does! I always worry about scams and identity theft because I don't understand what a caller could possibly get out of doing this. I was thinking maybe they are just randomly calling a list of numbers and when a person picks up the phone, they know the number is working.Wish these people would get caught. Can't something be done to stop this caller?
- AnnoyedI just received a call from a woman calling from 732-907-2112. She claimed she was from a Children's Cancer Fundraising Organization, which is also how it was displayed on my caller ID ("Children's Cancer".) She wanted to know if they could send me a pledge card. I told her I wasn't interested, and made my donations on my own. When I began to ask her to remove me from their calling list she started saying, "Hey, listen...I hear ya, but if you could just find..." At that point I just hung up.

- RonI received the call this morning, never picked it up. But, next time I'm going to. Like someone above suggested, the worst price for them is wasted time. I'm going to pick up the phone next time. Talk slow. Ask a million questions about their charity. I'll bring up how beautiful the weather is here, and how it makes me feel like donating something but I'm not sure what I should donate or who to. Maybe I will tell stories about my family and friends. See how long they stay on the phone. See if they continue to call me and I waste their time, or see if they stop calling..lol

- Noelle ReutherI keep getting calls from this number and they said they have had a hard time reaching us. They said they were a fundraiser and were returning our call.
