Got a call from this number and 781-941-2957 within two hours of each other, no one on the other end, hung up when I said hello.

We are a company in Quebec,
This guy send us a quote request but didn't give us any addres, just gave us the name of his church "Presbyterian Church of god" and called him self Rev. Robert Clark from Texas, said that he needed to send the order in South Africa.

Asked him to give me a call I needed to have more information.
Gave me a call & I couldn't understand a word he was saying (so much noise in the back ground & wouldn't get of the hands free mode).

By e-mail finally got an address in Winnipeg & this phone number in Massachusetts (781-941-2217).

Resend him an e-mail with some prices & finish it with the mention of Danish Shippers Company Limited.

This guy is trying us too with same story, but he is calling himself "Rev Larry Johnson" I am with the Presbyterian Church of God.... (Not Rev Robert Clark.)
Since his email sounded suspicious, I emailed him back that I need to speak with him over the phone because I have some questions on the order he wants to place and he gave me a long distance number because he is now overseas! And the number really works 011-2332-4754-5239 (I thing more people should call him so he should see we can get after him)

This guy sounds like a scam I gave him a super expensive price quote to check him out, and he still wants to buy it, so I went on and gave him the wrong colors that he wanted and told him I don't have all in stock but I have 100 in green 90 white 30 red 200 blue 55 brown... is that going to work for you? Yes! Yes! Yes! He replied, just charge my credit card and I want to send a shipping company to pick it up!

I'm trying to play the game further so I told him I will be fired if I will not follow my companies order processing system so I need your fiscal land line phone number and address, and a number and address for the “Church of god that you work for!” He gave me a non working number. I asked him for the billing address of the credit card? And here he comes with a different phone number, I goggled that address and came out different people living there! (That’s the address he gave me so in case he does it someone else be aware   (6168 Greenhill Rd, New Hope, PA, 18938, 781 941 2217)

After I found Helene's post, I called him up and told him you know that you call your self Rev Robert Clark? So what’s your real name, Rev Robert Clark or Rev Larry Johnson? You should know that there is lots of complaints filed against you and please continue doing what you are doing so you are going to get arrested soon! He hung up the phone!

Sounds suspicious! Just be careful with whom you are dealing!

I got an email for an order of cabinet doors, drawers and hardware. Rev. Robert Clark  from New Hope, Pa    phone# 781-941-2217  I never tried to call him, just emails. He wanted to place a credit card order and says he will pick everything up. He's about 8 hours away from me by the address he gave me. I googled him with all the info he gave me and found everyones comments. This must be a scam. How is he working this? Is he trying to steal identities?

Got the same thing, he is a rev. wants to by doors and frames. Wants them shipped over seas. Very eager to get material and use credit card. Total scam.

i just got this same kind of email, except he's looking for hollow metal frames. we don't sell metal frames or any other product. we are an architectural firm, providing architectural services, and we certainly don't accept credit cards. weird

I received the same message as WoodDoc502 above. Because they contacted us through our website I was able to get his IP address (41.218.196.144) and traced it to Ghana. He should be careful because some script kiddies might stumble across his home dsl router at http://41.218.196.144 , which is probably unsecured and many times can be accessed with the default username and password of admin/admin. He should be glad that he contacted someone with enough ethics not to log into his unit and mess up his internet connection. Though given the trouble these people cause others I am not above posting his IP on the internet.

this person is not too bright!  His email address is robertclark2g@gmail.com   But he starts his letter:  My name is Rev Robert Butler.  He wanted spare parts that don't even match the equipment he said he has.  We have run into this person before,  My standard response is that our company is Sarbaines Oxley Compliant (Federal Law resulting from Enron) and that his email address must match his company name.  We must also have a formal request on his "church" or company letterhead. IF he does manage to do this, only accept a wire transfer from them.  If they do give you a credit card number I always call the bank to check out the number and make sure it is good and not reported stolen.  (it usually is) please call the banks if you get a credit card number. sometimes  the card has not yet been reported stolen and you would be saving some poor innocent a lot of heartache!.

I recieved the same message yesterday from Rev. Robert Clark requesting a quote on "Service Trays" when I told him there would be very expensive molds that would need to be designed and built he said no problem and offered his CC #, WOW, that was WAY too easy, at that point I knew it was a scam, googled his name and found this board.

I might also add that his english, grammar and typing skills are that of about a 3rd grader....no, scratch that, maybe 1st grade level.

Ditto on an email from Mr. Robert Clark.
Wanting to buy stuff. Rather poor English. Story doesn't add up.

You asked how he works the scam - after about a year of trying to figure it out, I finally got the answer.  He does it by using a phony freight company.  He has his "mark" charge the phony/stolen credit card he has supplied for the "shipping charges" for some reason he comes up with so they can pay his hand selected shipping company in cash.  Then the "mark" is out that money, plus any charges he has paid his suppliers when the credit card comes back as phony/stolen from the bank.  Note that these scammers NEVER want to use any shipping company but their own.  Use that as your red flag that this is a scammer.  If they don't mentioning shipping in their request for a quote (or say they want a quote excluding shipping) ALWAYS ask for a local address.  Whenever I get an order that seems suspicious I always answer with the paragraph below.

PLEASE NOTE:  This company will only ship items using UPS, FedEx, or the United States Postal Service.  Under absolutely no circumstances will we ship items using any other than the aforementioned 3 carriers.  If you wish to use another shipping company, you must make those arrangements yourself and pay the shipping company directly.  THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY.

Usually that is all it takes, but very occassionally it takes 2 or 3 repeats in subsequent e-mails in which they insist on using their own shipper who is "very reliable", or "has done good work for them", or whatever... When I insist they must pay their shipper directly, they give up and quit communicating.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PREPARE AN ORDER FOR THESE PEOPLE BEFORE STRESSING THAT YOU WILL NOT USE THEIR SHIPPER.  YOU WILL END UP "EATING" THOSE COSTS.

My suspicions were correct, I received an email from robertclark2g@gmail.com, said he was Rev. Robert Clark from Presbyterian Church of God requesting brass engraved plates for church in Indonesia, but have somebody local to pick up.  I had him call me to discuss and didn't think he actually would.  He called and after questions etc... he was very quick to be okay with pricing.  When I started stating our policy for processing the order and payment, he very quickly said that is okay just send him the quote.  I had him give me a phone #781-941-2217, which I obviously googled and found this information, which verified all the suspicions I had. The # on caller id is #23-327-972-8677, searched this # and got scam for log houses using the same name.
