- HD replies to PAUL| 1 replyI have received a letter from Betty T Yee ( California State Controller’s office) stating that the Bank of America has been unsuccessful in contacting me about an unclaimed property. And that I should contact them at the 800-421-2110 number by certain date to claim my property. I suspect this is a scam.
- B-Edwards replies to HDYup. This is 101% a scam. The extra 1% in since reports here go back to 2008. That is dead in internet years.
It could be either a phishing scam or an Advance Fee Scam. - post pending moderator approval
- MamawReceived a call from an Alison Parker supposedly of Bank of America even giving her ID number. Stated someone opened a credit card in hubby's name and SS#. Wanted to know if we were in Washington State or allowed someone there to open the card. No to all. Then proceeded to give me the name on the card and where they charged. Would cancel the card for us and dismiss the charges. Now here's where the red flags go up. She indicated that someone from Experian would be calling to get it off the credit report. Sure enough next day someone did and that was really a wild interaction that included 3 other people. Turns out that Experian person was a telemarketer for a Debt Settlement Group. I'm convinced there was no bogus card and charges...just an elaborate scheme to get us to go thru a settlement program.
