Did the people who called the number back informed them that their number was being used?

I received a phone call from this 800 number, but I did not answer it.

My caller ID said this number was the Venus police department. I think it is a scam

It’s a Directv scam! They also called me. It clearly was a heavy foreign accent but his name was like Bob, Steve or something like that! Lol! Red flag #1! He told me they had a special Directv deal for me for just $59 a month. Red flag #2! Now mind you, I pay about $90 to $100 a month for service under DTV’s 1st year deal. I had left DTV after 13 yrs of service to go to TWC (for another ‘deal’) then switched back to DTV when that deal was over and have NEVER paid only $59 a month. (TWC sucked, btw!)  My DTV year was literally almost over, so, since I was ‘curious’ and just sitting at CVS, I let him talk. The guy told me that if I accept this offer ‘TODAY ONLY’ he would give me a very important promo code, that I need to write down, then transfer me over to his supervisor who I would give said ‘promo code’ to. Red flag #3! My spidy senses were tingling! He transferred me over to his “supervisor”, another man with a heavy foreign accent, who greeted me. He asked for the ‘promo code’, which I gave him, and he said this was a promotional deal eBay was sponsoring. Red flag #4! He continued... I’d get DTV for so many months along with all the premium channels like HBO, Showtime and Cinemax!!! Isn’t that great?!! 🙄 And all I have to do was go to the store and purchase a $300 eBay gift card. Red flag #5!!! (Nuclear alarms everywhere were going off now!!! Lol!) Now, he instructed me to go to...and he named off different business....to buy the $300 eBay gift card BUT I “couldn’t go to CVS” or some other business he named. I specifically remember CVS WASN’T a place I could purchase the card because I was sitting in CVS parking lot at the time I was talking to them. Lol!
Back to his directions. I needed to purchase this $300 eBay gift card, then, I need to call back and give them the eBay card number. 😉  That will show that I did, indeed, purchase it and since eBay was the sponsor of this promotion, they then get credit for it and I get service for only $59 a month!  👍🏻😉 I said okey-doky and he reminded me that this deal had to be completed by 11pm tonight. I agreed but his time with me was up because I needed to get off the phone to finish my errands. He was very insistent of the deadline! Tonight at 11pm. Okay, okay...(yeah, right buddy! Lol!) Later that evening, at 8pm, my phone started blowing up! It was them! I’d decline the call and they’d call back. Ring, Declined...called back! Ring! Declined...called back! Ring! Declined! Called back! Ring!!! Declined!!!! Called back!!!!! OMG!!! Get the hint buddy!!! At the time they called, I was doing something very important on my phone and the call would interrupt my screen and I came close to accidentally answering the call because I was typing on the screen in that spot. It was so frustrating which didn’t help their cause with me any. Since that day, they’ve tried to call me two more times! Guess that ‘one day deal’ has been extended! Lol!
This goes without saying but I never bought that $300 eBay gift card! And I won’t be answering their calls in the future. Bored or not bored! 😂
