    Beware - Scam / phishing!!

I recv'd two calls on my cell from this number, I answered the second time.  A man with a heavy East Indian accent, amidst a lot of background noise, claimed to be calling me from Dell Computer technical support.  We have a Dell desktop at home, so I listened further.

He said that they had detected a dangerous virus on our system, and that I needed to go to the computer right now and follow his instructions to eliminate the threat.  Since we have anti-virus software running on our PC, I was suspicious of this claim - how would they be able to remotely detect an alleged virus on our PC?

I told him that I wasn't near the computer right now (even though I was) and that I would call back later.  He insisted that he needed to call me instead, and asked when he could call back again.  I said that I would call in myself when it was convenient and I hung up.

I immediately called Dell technical support at the number on their web site, which is different than the number that called me.  The customer service agent confirmed that Dell never calls customers directly as I had been called.

Obviously it was some sort of scam / phishing call, don't listen to them.  Beware!!

Welcome to the largest telephone scam in the world. The number calling you is normally a spoofed number coming from India, the caller usually ,male or female, identifies themselves with western name but has a heavy Indian accent. They will try to get you to download software to allow them control of your pc and then steal all your info or ask for a payment to unlock it.  Type Windows scam in google or go to Microsoft for full details.

PS: Also a spoofed Dell "Customer Service" web page:

In relation to the call noted above, I Google'd the phone # and was directed to this web page:

    http://www.livecustomerservice.org/dell-live-customer-service?page=6

This appears to be a Dell customer service site, however it is clearly bogus but could easily trick the gullible. I've reported both the phone # & web address to Dell tech support, perhaps they can take some sort of action....?

I just had such a call from a scammer but what I'd like to know is how they have my number. I'm in IT and I have better AV protection than some companies have and I know what's running on all my computers, I'm blocking this number as they do not care about a do not call list and they are out of the country for the FCC to do anything about it.

If you will also notice that the 1-800 number is one number off from Dell's number to call. It should be 9896 if it was from a real Dell tech. As a matter of fact, Dell and their techs will not call you. They've made it a policy to e-mail their customers instead of calling. It's for our protection.

Never believe them if they call and say they've detected an error on your PC or laptop. In the first place, there is no way for them to know that. They would have to have remote access in which they don't. They can't detect any errors if they don't have remote access and only the person could allow them to have it. The person would have to go to the website that the scammer would give the address for. The person would then have to give them permission by clicking okay and enter a pass code that the scammer would give them.

Scammers also call and say they're from Microsoft and have detected errors on your PC or laptop. Microsoft NEVER calls anyone. They send out e-mails if it's really them.

If you receive one of these calls, hang up on them and contact the Federal Trade Commission. You can go to their website and report the scammer.

Guy with heavy accent from India called himself "Mike" and says he's from Dell technical support and he was notified that there was a problem with my computer.  I knew this was the usual and common "Dell" scam (similar to the "Microsoft" scam) and I immediately cynically asked him if he wanted to load his scumware on my computer to vacuum up all my passwords, personal information, etc., so he could raid my bank accounts and open credit cards.  He was surprisingly candid when he replied "Yes".  And then I hung up on him.  This is a SCAM.

Get calls from these eastern Indian people saying they are from Dell and that they have detected a virus on my computer.  I know they are lying as I just talked to the real Dell.

Unfortunately, I was scammed today (should've know better).  I was duped into going to the website the scammer provided and provided the ID and password that popped up. I realized my error and disconnected my computer after a few seconds had gone by.

Now I'm really concerned about how much access the scammer has to my computer. I've already changed my passwords (Windows, email, etc) and am wondering if there's anything else to do?  Also, is there any specific way of knowing whether they installed malicious software?

I got a number from someone claiming to be a part of dell's customer service offering me a $800 laptop for $250 with a 5 year warranty. They even tried to assure me when I accused them of being a scam by saying that I didn't need to give them my credit/debit card number over the phone. I asked them to call me back because I wasn't sure. I hung up and called customer service from dell and talking to a support tech and he said that there were no promotions like that going on and told me it was a SCAM.

The number is identified as Dell Sales on my caller ID.

The caller has a heavy accent, and told me that there is a promotion in my city (which has a population of 300, by the way) telling me that I will get a Dell laptop worth $800.

I t thought it really was Dell, as I have two of their computers in my office, and told him that unless it was free, I didn't need any computers or peripherals right now.  He hung up without saying another word.  Only when I found this site was i certain that it wasn't Dell.

Got the typical Dell service caller talk and I requested to be transferred to a supervisor. The male caller (Indian/Asian accent) said NO and started to get verbally abusive with me. Made threats against myself and my family if I hung up, which I then did. Then I reported this number to the FCC abusive caller website. Be careful when answering calls from this number.

This number originally called me to try to exploit my computer by remote hacking. They claimed they were from Dell, saying that I had malware on my computer. I know computers well, and I knew it didn't. I had gotten that computer fixed only a day previously by an actual Dell technician.
All of this was back in September of 2015.
The person who called was a man, but I'm sure they employ both men and women to do their scam. Also, the man had a heavy Indian accent which was hard to understand at times.
They tried to pull their stunt with me twice, but I knew it was fake, and called them out on it both times, in which they hung up immediately. However, these people are really persistent, and have been spam calling my cell phone at least once a day ever since I've gotten my computer fixed. Today, they've called 4 times. Shows how immature these scamming morons really can be.
They don't say much, and they hang up if I answer the phone.
Whatever you do, if the number 800-624-9897 calls you, do not answer.

Received 2 calls from this number asking me to make some changes to my computer because it was reporting errors.  The caller had a foreign accent.  After asking him to tell me the host name of the computer that is causing the problem he hung up.

Received 2 calls into 2 weeks. First call sounded legit and he informed me, in a heavy East Indian accent, that they detected a virus on my Dell PC.  I didn't have time to deal with him and he gave me his phone number 800-624-9897.  Two weeks later, he called again. However, this time the number was from "No Caller ID".  I did not give him any information but I asked him to email me. What's interesting was he  already  knew what kind of Dell desktop I had and he knew my email  address. I always have very good, updated daily, antivirus and ad-ware protection, my firewall is kept on and my Wi-Fi password is changed every few months.
    Obviously a scammer!
How did he get my information?

I just received a call from this same phone number, only this guy with a heavy East Indian accent was claiming to be an F.B.I. agent. I played him along by asking him why he wanted to talk to the person he was asking for; me. When he told me he was an F.B.I. agent, I asked him if I was a criminal. After a few times of going through this scenario, he finally got frustrated with me and said something about me being a "mother f*@#er" so, at that point, I hung up on him. Don't even give these guys the time of day.
