Report a phone call from 800-624-9897 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- RoseReceived a call from this number. Man with a heavy accent -- East Indian? -- said he was from Dell computer. Since I know better (at least I hope I do #laughs#), I returned with a snappy "No you're not!" and hung up. Jerkwads.
- Caller: Not listed.
- bethezdanBeen getting calls from this number (800-624-9897) registering as Dell on my iPhone so l finally picked up. Same experience as others reported here: knew my name and model of my Dell laptop (and obviously my phone number...and possibly other personal info, but I didn't ask), the caller had an accented voice from India, there was a lot of background voices working the phones, the caller identified himself from Dell technical support and told me in an urgent voice that Dell has detected malware and other problems on my computer and that he is calling to resolve the problems. He wanted me to logon to my laptop. (Unbeknownst to him, that laptop has not been turned on for more than a month.) I told him my laptop was not with me but would get it in a few minutes and call him back. Once I asked for a return number he asked me to hold then disconnected 30 seconds later. Afterwards, I called Dell. That number is a legitimate Dell number. However, I was told by the Dell technician that Dell will only make outbound calls when the customer calls first or to check on the status of a previous tech support issue. She suggested to ask for the most recent case number from Dell from the last time I called Dell tech support. My concern is the scammer may have that info as they seem to have much info on the person they're calling. Anyway, a legitimate Dell number being hijacked by scammers.
- WR3AThis scam is scaling up. I had fun with the guys (there are Youtube videos of people playing them) a year ago. Recently the calls have been strangely idiotic. They have my name (probably because I used actual Dell India based support last year), and now they say "I have detected your wifi is leaking". ???? Eh what? Then he says he needs to "pass me to his supervisor". I suddenly realized this is brilliant - people who would fall for "your wifi is leaking" are the people they need to be gullible enough to go to their website and click the thing that executes their ability to remotely control your PC. A single savvy but sleazy Indian could hire 9 idiots to call and screen out people who won't fall for it, and then have them pass the gullible "to the supervior". I've blocked every number they call from and it has quieted, but got another from an 800 number today.
This needs a new "call type" by the way. "hijacker" or "swindler" or something- Caller: "Dell Technical Support" cough cough
- Call type: Telemarketer
- GinaI got a call on my cell from this number. A man with a heavy East Indian accent, claimed to be calling me from Dell Computer technical support. I have a Dell desktop at home as I listen he is insisting that I go on my computer ASAP. I told them to call back did some investing and I realized it was a scam. They call me multiple times a day.
- Caller: Dell
- BrandonI got a call from this phone number just today. This individual identified themselves from Microsoft as a Tech. Asking me to use the cmd prompt and identify some malicious software that is hacking their server. What a load of crap. So far they have called 5 times today.
- Caller: N/A
- Call type: Prank
- LynnI just received a call from this number on my cell phone. I never answer calls from anyone that I do not know who is calling me. They never left a message. I have had calls from these IDIOTS in the past and they refuse to quit calling.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- JG RanchI was called by this number over 20 times. Each tiime he tried to tell me I have a virus on my computer that needed fixing. They are nothing but con artist and someone needs to but this guy behind bars as it is just plain hoax.. When I see this number calling on my phone I answer it "This is the sheriffs department and your call is being recorder and traced." He hangs up but still calls again.
- Caller: Dell Computer
- Anon in N.C. USAI too got a call from the Ph # in question.
However they stated they were 'Microsoft Tech Support' to which I chuckled and repeated what he said for clarification.
Afterwards he stated there were issues with my PC that needed attention.
I stated that I was highly doubtful of such as there was no way he had knowledge or access to my PC. He was dumbfounded.
(I then remembered such calls in the past) and replied, "that there was no way I could have any sort of the issues he was implying".
Again dumbfounded I stated the reason was that I don't use Windows, I have/use Ubuntu Linux. To which he said "Oh! Okay [***] you" and hung up.
Time to do as others have done and file a FCC report.
ALSO.. LOOK up this scam on YouTube, there are numerous great recordings of these calls on there.
Take care people, and remember that the great answer is Apple MacBook or Linux installed. - AnonymousI have received 2 calls from this number in the month of December thus far. The scammer that called me both times had a german sounding accent and was a complete idiot. The first time, I decided to humor him. I had one exchange that went like this:
Me: "So how exactly do you know what's going on on my computer?"
Him: "Your computer is sending messages to our server."
Me: "What server?"
Him: "[Pauses] Windows server."
Me: "Ah yes, you know, the windows server"
Him: "Yes, yes."
Me: "Now is one of those 'reports' my phone number?"
Him: "Why yes, yes."
Me: "How exactly is my phone number an error?"
Him: "[Pauses for a good few seconds and sighs] I don't know."
At this point I told him that this was funny and all, but I didn't have time for a scam. I was recording the entire thing and I showed it to my parents and my sister, as well of my friends, all of whom found it funny. HOWEVER, if you fall for this scam, you are in trouble. This scam can be incredibly harmful to anyone who falls for it. If you have looked up this phone number to check if it was a scam, rest assured that it most certainly is. I am fairly technologically adept and I noticed several few warning signs of a scam being present. In addition, the folks above me in this thread have corroborated evidence showing that this is 100% a scam.
Anyway, unfortunately, (for the scammers) they called me once again today to tell me the same exact bs they told me last time. In fact, I'm fairly sure this was the same guy, but he clearly wasn't having it today. This time their phone number didn't show but I could see it in previous calls as this number again. As previously stated, the guy at the other end of the line told me the same stuff he told me last time, so I told him I got the same call a couple weeks ago. I told him I knew it was a scam, he got mad, and hung up on me. This was my experience with these people, and I hope yours is/was not worse, as I know some people's were.- Caller: "Dell"

- JackoAre they ever going to stop these scammers who have Dell customer information? Besides sending out an email a year or more after the scam has been running why doesn't Dell put some resources into having these scumbags shutdown? I don't care where they are they can be stopped one way or the other.

- KatieMy experience was the same as the others. Somebody with a heavy accent calling from "Dell" with a high pressure message for me to take care of my computer problem right away and to download to give them access to my computer! DO NOT GIVE ANYONE ACCESS TO YOUR COMPUTER EVER!!! My question is how did they hack in to Dell's database to get all of our information in the first place!!!

- Emanon| 1 replyThey call several times a day, claiming to be from dell. They somehow know my service tag and claim someone hacked my computer. normally they do not give a location of the hackers but in the newfound Russia stuff in America.. they have now been asking if I know two names. and said the signal is originating from Moscow.. saying they need access to my computer to run a check.. when you decline they get very insistent and if you say you are not home they will call back every few hours between 8AM -10PM still trying to get access to the computer.
On this last call, I lied to em and said I no longer have access to the computer, and then they asked what brand is it I said it was not a Dell so that was not their concern .. he then asked if I have a different wifi signal for it, I Said that is not his concern since it is not a Dell system.. after a few more attempts and denies I said you are not getting access to my system, said good day and hung up. It has been a few hours and so far they have not called back.- Caller: Dell Scam

- B-Edwards replies to EmanonYup. Dell leaks names, service tags and computer service codes like a sieve. No other computer maker has ever called me, only Dell. The last Dell I bought was in 2002 and I got a call about 4-5 months ago.
The actual Dell number, if you dial yourself, is 800-624-9896. I see this gang is hoping you will believe they are calling from "line 2". The scammers will spoof the genuine number as well, so be careful. Sometimes they spoof the name Dell in your caller ID.
They seem to be fixated by Russia for some reason. I was told 5 attempts were made from Russia to access my email. I said "Da, Comrade, that was me, I am in Glorious Workers Paradise. Crappy Dell computer kept freezing so I called Mr. Bill Gates Microsoft and he fix like a good thing of newness. Thank you for vigilance of unwanted support, Comrade!" I have not heard from them again. - post pending moderator approval
